ATX Spotlight: More New Rain Collectors

rainWe were fortunate enough to premiere the first Rain Collectors single of the year, and now the charming Austin duo has another tune for you all to enjoy. Santiago, who plays in other well-known ATX acts like Growl takes the lead for the opening moments of the track, then trading places so Blair, of AMA, can come in and do her thing…only for the two to unite during the chorus.  Honestly, there’s probably lots of little musical nods they’re making, but you can’t pinpoint just one sound, making the group sound utterly refreshing whilst still feeling wholly familiar. Let’s keep our focus on these guys as they continue to charm their way into our constant listening rotation.

Steady Jam From Low

mainLow has been around the game for years now and have put out more than their fair share of hits.  With such a history, you’d think the well had run dry, but as evidenced by this jam “What Part Of Me”, the band is still capable of producing gems.  This one is a short and sweet lo fi track worthy of being labeled a pop hit.  Press play and enjoy.

Low will drop Ones and Sixes via Sub Pop on September 11th.

Spend Friday With The Parlor

the-parlor-promo-2015-650x400Altamont, NY based The Parlor has been the recipient of some major praise from online music critics recently.  Their style is this sort of breezy, while quirky bit of pop music genius.  Below is a sample of their sound with new track “Wishes in the Sheets”.  Hopefully you’ll find something to enjoy here as we ease into the weekend.

Wahzu Wahzu is due out September 18th via B3nson.

Drifting Pop from Uncle Bobby

bobUpon pressing play on this new single from Uncle Bobby, I was immediately transferred to a semi-dream state, influenced by the opening moments, accentuated by the sitar in the background.  It’s an interesting tune in that I don’t really think there’s a precise genre that it fits into, though it definitely aligns itself with pop music.  There’s little tinges of psychedelia, but there’s also a bedroom pop aspect that really hits home with me.  It’s the first glimpse of the work of the multi-instrumentalist, who will be releasing a full EP later on this year.

Playful Single from Owl & Mouse

owlzImmediately, there’s a simplicity to this song from Owl & Mouse.  It’s just a little ukulele backed by a solemn piano chord, soon accompanied by Hannah Botting’s voice. Still, the basic approach wraps itself around your ears, drawing you close into the lyrics, discussing the emotions of saying goodbye.  As the song unfolds there’s some really lush accompaniment filling in the space that lays empty…there’s added strings and really light percussion.  It’s a remarkable start for the group’s debut, Departures, which is being released by Fika Recordings later this year.  Find yourself falling in love with this number today.

Painted Palms Give Us a Hit

Painted Palms has given us so many hits over the last couple of years it’s hard to believe the band has even more sweet jams to give.  Today comes news of an upcoming album and the release of yet another one of those great songs I was just mentioning.  This one is called “Disintegrate” and is surely a song that will make your weekend, or even summer, good times playlist.  I’m already dropping it into mine.  Carry on.

New album, Horizons, is due out on September 4th via Polyvinyl Records.

Teaser Pony Offer New 7″

teaserFelt like it’s been a wee bit since I checked in on the goings-on in Australia, so I was really pleased to come across this new EP from Melbourne’s Teaser Pony. It’s got this casual pop attitude, sometimes energetic, while other times completely relaxed.  Their debut EP has a lot of promise going forward, leaving room for the band to move in multiple directions; “Champion Fullback” has a power-pop feel, while “I.D.K.E.W.Y.S.F.N.” has a Spoon-ish stomp to them. You can grab your own copy from Cinnamon Records in the first few weeks of June.

Gem From Paul Bergmann

1457530_552370428228320_4657213407371074694_nMan I have been enjoying this new Paul Bergmann tune most of the evening and wanted to send it your way on this fine hump day.  The track, “Old Dream”, is a true songwriter’s gem in the vein of old Tallest Man or even up and comer Andrew St. James.  It’s truly a special number.

Paul currently has a 7″ single with this track and one other out now on Fairax Recordings.

Even More From Eternal Summers

It’s clearly no secret at this point, ATH has a love affair with Eternal Summers.  The pop tunes with that little bit of rawness around the edges creates some truly special moments for the band.  As the release date for their new album draws ever closer, let’s get in one more single to preview the material.  This one is called “Come Alive”.  Enjoy and happy Monday.

Don’t forget to pick up Gold and Stone out June 2nd on Kanine Records.

White Reaper Kill it Again

untitledMan White Reaper just seem to continually fly a little under the radar despite their stellar rock tunes.  We raved about the band last year after the release of a self-titled EP full of punk rock inspired sounds, catchy hooks, and loud guitars.  Nathan already shared with you new single “Make Me Wanna Die” back in April, and I’m pleased today to bring you new single “I Don’t Think She Cares”.  Let’s put it this way, if your Monday is dragging a little bit, spin this song a few times and all will be right in the world.

Don’t forget that new album White Reaper Does it Again is due out on July 17th via Polyvinyl.
