Quirky Pop From DoublePlusGood

10449975_10152457715088898_2291898999261517179_nPortland has long been a place for some quality pop music that might just be a little bit left of center and up and comers DoublePlusGood are continuing that trend.  Today they are sharing with us this catchy as hell, yet also a little bit quirky new single called “Sometimes”.  You cannot deny the pop sound being created here that’s sure to have your head nodding along to the smooth guitar and irresistible beat.  Keepin’ it real.

Pick up new album, You Can Master Life, on September 16th via SoHiTek Records.

Another New Song from Aan (SXSW Act)

AAN_web_press_photo_lo-res_jpgWe’ve been covering Aan for some time, and it seems only fitting that we offer up this latest tune of theirs to close out our Friday offerings.  This tune comes from their Amor Ad Nauseum effort, which is available now.  It’s filled with lofty songwriting, soaring vocals, and an organic structure that reminds me an awful lot of Snowmine .  The Portland act has won over pretty much everyone in their homebase, and it looks like with a big tour lined up-including SXSW-they’ll be happily spreading their tunes to all of us outside the Beaver State.

Great New Track From Aan

cararobbins-aan-16.144811

It’s been quite some time since I last posted about Portland based band Aan (just about a year ago) and I feel guilty as I’ve missed some major news on the band.  Just yesterday, the band dropped their brand new debut LP, Amor Ad Nauseum, via Party Damage.  To make my tardiness right, I’m sharing with you guys this new joint “Bubble Bath Bop”.  The title of the song is quite possibly the best way to describe the track prior to the first listen.  It’s a bright, jangly pop tune that’s equal parts shiny and catchy.

You can also catch this band in all their live glory during SXSW.

New Americana Jam From The Parson Red Heads

parsons-groupIt’s been so long since I’ve heard the band name The Parson Red Heads, and I’m glad to receive some news today that they are indeed still alive and kickin’.  For proof, check out this brand new song called “To The Sky” and offer us your thoughts.  I find it to be a nice little slice of Americana music similar to something we might have heard from Blitzen Trapper back in the day that eventually ends in a majorly infectious jam out session.  I’m okay with that.

Expect new album, Orb Weaver, to hit stores on October 23rd via Fiesta Red Records.

Dreamy Pop From Wishyunu

30596_395804966609_739048_nPortland based dream pop band Wishyunu just sent us this new track “Sprayy” a few days ago and we wanted to share it with our readers.  You’re mind will likely conjure up images of band’s like Beach House, and rightfully so, but let’s give the band a little more credit than that.  After a few listens, you’re sure to pick up on some of the subtleties of the song, like the quiet plucked guitar in the background for example.  Check it out and see if you can find more?

This track will appear on the band’s new EP Futuray and also currently appears on the annual PDX Pop Now! Compilation.

New Music From Aan

colorbandsquare1-resized

I’m really into this new song “Spiritual Provisions” from Portland based band Aan and wanted to share it with all you fine folks.  It has a great driving guitar of sorts throughout, with some very impressive belting vocals over a solid backing drum beat.  The song is actually a B-side off a new 7″ from the band.  If you’re into this one, they also have the A-track “Mystery Life” streaming on Soundcloud as well.  Physical copies of the record can be purchased from label Cool Summer Records on February 5th.

New Folk Number from Y La Bamba

1153Last year, Portlanders Y La Bamba released Court the Storm. It’s combination of Mexican heritage and modern folk led to much success, and they’re already back at it again. January 29th will see the release of the group’s new Oh February EP, and we’ve got the newest single available for you guys. I’m attached to the sound of the guitar in this song, but the vocal harmonies and late-entry of the drums don’t hurt the song either. If you’re into what you hear, look out for the band to hit the road with The Lumineers at the end of the month.

New Gritty Pop From Campfires

Here’s a short and sweet gritty pop number called “Fortune Teller” coming your way from Portland based indie pop band Campfires.  The band is basically a one man job by Jeff Walls who recently moved from Chicago for greener skies in the Northwest.  Jeff and his band moniker have a new album called Tomorrow Tomorrow coming out on February 19th via Fire Talk Records.  You should definitely check out a pre-order of the album if this one tickles your fancy.

Cool New Tune from Pictorials

We don’t typically associate Portland with post-punk sounds; that seems to be more in line with their friends nearby in Seattle.  But, I’ve been really enjoying this new track from Pictorials, a band that came together after other projects failed to meet their needs.  The group gave up on their trained instruments, trying to create a sound all their own.  If this is a good example, then their debut Learning EP is shaping up to be quite a gem.  I’ve enjoyed the mood, which has created a slight swaying of my arms and body, giving me a nostalgic feeling for my appreciation of good old fashioned art-pop.  Bet you like this jam.

New Psych Tune from Wooden Indian Burial Ground

One of the my favorite things about listening to psych rock, at least as it stands today, is the way the lyrics are sometimes delivered–sort of brought to you by angst ridden Halloween heroes.  That’s the feeling I get when I listen to this new tune from Wooden Indian Burial Ground, who I’ve recently taken a liking to.  Musically, they sound similar to the jams that Thee Oh Sees might toss out in a live setting, using cutting guitar solos and screaming walls of feedback.  This is definitely more forceful than a lot of the psych fare out there, which might be just the reason I’m digging it so much. They’re debut self-titled album is out October 30th via Mon Amie.
