Video Premiere: Altadore Treat Capable Wolf and You

Not to long ago, Altadore released their latest, Opal, Luna and Hymn, which is definitely one of those pleasurable listens that should have made it’s way to you by now (if not, find it HERE). They’ve given us the pleasure of sharing their brand new video for “Capable Wolf,” one of the many standout tracks on the record. Below you’ll find the band accompanying their delicate pop with elements of beautiful landscape, spliced between bits of road trips and band appearances. It’s the perfect way to deliver the song, as the careful touches of strings arrangements definitely create visions fitting for the video version. Feel free to lose yourself in both song and visual; your morning will be better off for it!

Premiere: New Suntrodden Single

suntroddenAs you’ve seen, I’ve been all about Suntrodden leading up to the release of his release, which is a month away! While you’ve heard touches of indiepop, this new single shows of Erik Stephansson to build this huge pop sensibility in really simple ways, utilizing the strength of his voice and careful guitar playing. At this point, I don’t think I can find a thing he’s done wrong at this point…this is a pop songwriter with the gift. Look to get your hands on Suntrodden II on October 28th.

Pleased to Meet You: Skinny Girl Diet

skinnygirlReading the release info from Skinny Girl Diet is like a dream, saying all the right things, promising all the right dreams. The three piece build off their love of punk, grunge and even R&B, but aren’t looking to be defined by anything specifically; they’re aiming to make music that’s as passionate as they are, leaving you with a message in the long run. They claim to be tired of what’s been labeled “punk,” and they aim to take back the attitude of a lost culture. Musically, you can definitely hear the remnants of grunge on this particular number, which, for me, created feelings of nostalgia along with a simultaneous promise of hope for their new record Heavyflow; it’ll be released by HHBTM Records on November 4th.

Premiere: This Frontier Needs Heroes Ready Real Job

thisfrontierI’m continuing this year with my love affair (reignited!) with country/folk tunes. This Frontier Needs Heroes are readying their new album, Real Job, which falls perfectly in line with the country genre, though I’m partial to the band’s brand of storytelling. For their latest single, they start off slowly with a story of smoking in Colorado before venturing off camping. As they move on, the pace is picked up by a rolling drum and extra musical accents to add depth to the lyrics of Brad Lauretti. For me, the attraction is two-fold, as I love the rambling attitude of the musicianship, but adore the friendly dictation from Lauretti (not to mention the alliteration in the song title)…like sitting around a camping campfire with a good old friend. Indulge yourself, and look for the new album on October 14th.

ATX Premiere: Here’s the Next Installment from Genuine Leather

genuineleatherEvery Friday since July we’ve been treated to brand new tunes from Genuine Leather…a new single for every week until you’ve heard them all! I love this one, as I think it shows the diversity of the project. They’ve dabbled in indie rock realms, but this one seems more like a pop influenced bit…filled with bubbling grooves while guitar strumming works just beneath the mix; it goes without saying, but the sonic palette has definitely been broadened on this number. Sounds like just another hit from the band’s next record, Brunch, which will be released with a celebratory showthat’s in the works.

Premiere: One Final Bit from Quin Galavis

quin-galavisJust last week I put up a post raving about the local Austin release show for Quin Galavis; you know, part performance art, part concert (read about it here).Today, we have the premiere of one of the tracks that I think exemplifies the quiet brilliance beneath My Life in Steel and Concrete. In my review, I discussed how I had mistakenly never given Quin much credit for his vocals, and this number allows for his voice to really take the central focus while plucked chords and cello are employed behind him. But, aside from fawning over his voice, I think this tune exemplifies precisely why this album is a must have in your collection…standing alone, it’s striking, but it’s even more so when it’s listened to in the midst of the various movements and approached Galavis utilizes within his latest release. Be you curious or in love, you’ll find the album available tomorrow from Super Secret Records.

Premiere: Redspencer Offer New Single

redspencerMelbourne’s Redspencer won me over with their debut EP, so I’m stoked that they’re getting ready to release a proper full-length. They’ve been kind enough to share with us this new single, which takes on the guitar-pop of their early work, but elevates it to the next level. The hooks are still present, and coolly float out, but I think there’s some bits of Blur‘s casualness in the way the lyrics are delivered. So, take some mid 90s Brit pop, add in some textural elements from Aussie guitar pop, and you have this gem of a tune. You’ll find this tune on the group’s debut LP, Perks, which is being released by the uber reliable Deaf Ambitions.

Premiere: New Pop from The Chairman Dances

thechairmandancesA few weeks ago I was introduced to The Chairman Dances, and here I am fortunate enough to share a brand new track with you today. It’s another piece of literary pop, like a unique blend of Mountain Goats and Dent May. And, like all great pop tunes, it’s the texturing and careful touches that make the track; listen through this song for the fuzzy underbelly that leaves ample room for the vocals to really take off. Pop music needs more songwriters like this, both playful and thoughtful all at once. Next week you can grab their new effort Time Without Measure via Black Rd. Records!

Premiere: Bubbles Brown Bring Blues Booking on “Sundance”

bubblebrownGive this track a few moments and you’ll probably find yourself lost in the past, stomping your feet to the history of Bubbles Brown‘s soulful boogie. The band broke their teeth working the streets of Chicago for spare change, and it seems that in doing so, they’ve come out brandishing their own unique blend of blues, jazz and the soul of Texas. They recently released their debut Mt. Gilead, andthese B-sidescontinue to prove that some bands have no peers. Seems so simple, yet taking a few listens will reveal just how complex the sounds of the duo have gotten over time. Hope you’ll spend some time here and then go back to listen to the whole of their album.

Premiere: My Son Bison Release “XV”

bisonI’m a sucker for well orchestrated indie rock, particularly the sort that uses a piano line for the backbone. This new tune from My Son Bison fits perfectly into that mold, and I adore the way they’ve managed to flesh out the song; they add touches of trumpet, classical guitar and just the right touch on the cymbals. It makes the song rise, even when the vocals seem to hold the track steady. Speaking of the vocals…such a wonderful voice here, soaring with such warm tones. Look to find more beauty within the confines of their debut, Two Faces and a Vase, released this month…with a run of East Coast dates to celebrate.
