Show Preview: Buke and Gase @ Red 7 (10/5)

Date Friday, October 5th
Location Red 7
Doors 9:00 PM
Tickets $8 from Transmission

Friday nights are always a blast, especially if you can squeeze in some well performed rock n’ roll.  One of the bands coming into town Friday, who are destined to be popular, if they’re not huge already, is Buke and Gase. Their shape-shifting indie-rock even got a Best New Music nod after announcing the release of their upcoming album, General Dome (1/29/13). If you want to be hip, and you want to be on the cusp of truly creative art, then you need to get to this show, or else your friends will mock you for being the one person who wasn’t on board with the group from the beginning.  Horse + Donkey will be opening the night, so be sure to show up around 10 PM. Here’s a hit from the band.

Austin Town Hall Presents: White Arrows @ Red 7 (9.20)

Hey folks, I know Thursday is super packed with great bands in town, but if you’re going to some of the early shows, like Fiona Apple or Beach House, then afterwards you need to join us over at Red 7.  We’re stoked to be working with Transmission to present White Arrows in their glorious return to Red 7.  I am still enjoying their latest release, Dry Land Is Not a Myth, which is filled with hooks galore.  Last time we caught the band, they absolutely blew us away, giving us a stronger live show than I think any of us expected.  They’ll be joined by friends Young Buffalo to open up the evening, and with Doors @ 9 PM, you’ll have time to finish your beer and round out your night pop bliss.

Tickets – $8 from Transmission

Show Preview: Wild Nothing @ Red 7 (8/29)

Date Wednesday, August 29th
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $10 from Transmission

I’m sure you’re probably tired of us always raving about Wild Nothing, but I promise you this is a show you need to be at.  I was skeptical at first, knowing the group was mostly a bedroom project, but Jack and his buds totally killed it that night, making me a life-long fan for sure.  I know all of us at ATH couldn’t do anything but rave about it for a good solid month.  Plus, two great ATX bands will help get you in the mood: Boy Friend and Super Lite Bike.  Please get there early to support all the bands…it’s always appreciated.

Show Preview: SSLYBY @ Red 7 (8/21)

Date Tuesday, August 21st
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $8 from Transmission

It’s been a bit of time since I’ve seen Someone Still Loves Your Boris Yeltsin, but having thoroughly enjoyed their recent effort, Tape Club, I think this is going to be the place to be on Tuesday evening.  They’re always energetic, and they know their way around a solid pop track, so your expectations should be high. Oh, and the bill can’t get much better with two great Austin bands, Oh No Oh My and Tiger Waves.  You’ve gotta get there early to see Tiger Waves and support the guys, as they’ve had some rough times on their recent national tour, having lost a van to the ways of the road.  Good pop, good times. Be there.

Show Preview: Red 7 6th Anniversary w/ Obits (8/3)

Date Friday, August 3rd
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $13 from Transmission

As Red 7 continues the weekend with their anniversary shows, they’ve got what I personally think is the best line-up in town.  You’ve got to get there early because three of the hottest rock n’ roll acts in Texas will be opening things up.  You’ll get Fleshlights, James Arthur’s Manhunt, and my personal favorite Mind Spiders.  The Spiders recent record Meltdown is still killing it on my record player, and their live show is always a blast.  And the finale finishes strong with Obits closing the night out.  The band is fronted by Rick Froberg of Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes fame, and that alone makes it a show you can’t afford to miss. Hope we see you there!

It’s the 6th year for local venue Red 7, and they’ve got an absolutely killer weekend of shows for you.  It all starts off Friday with some of our favorite acts playing their second show of the week at the club.  The Coathangers will be the headliner on the evening, with the three girls bring their onslaught to the stage.  They’ll be accompanied by Jaill, one of my personal favorites, playing songs from their recent album, Traps.  You’ll also get local boys The Golden Boys starting off the night in the right fashion.  It’s going to be a great week for Red 7, so be sure to get out and show the venue some love.

Show Review: Beat Connection @ Red 7 (6/21)

We gathered our team together this past Thursday, hoping to catch a great show over at Red 7.  Two of the much-hyped Interweb bands would be taking to the stage, so we figured we had to be there to see what they really had to offer. Our photographer Brian was on hand to snap some great pics despite being forced to shoot from behind and around the ridiculous amount of video cameras present.
