Date 6/21/12
Location Red 7
Doors 9pm
Tickets $10 @ Frontgate

Great show going down this Thursday at Red 7 with some of the best to offer in the world of electronic pop music.  Headlining the show is buzz worthy band Beat Connection who seem to be blowing up right before our very eyes.  The undercard of this one is also great with two ATH favorite bands in the form of White Arrows and Brothertiger.  We’re going to be there and we hope you’ll join us.

Show Preview: Quintron & Miss Pussycat @ Red 7 (6/16)

Date Saturday, June 16th
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $10 from Transmission

If you’re looking for one helluva show on Saturday night, Quintron and Miss Pussycat are putting on a garage party over at Red 7.  Everyone already should be aware of the headliner, but I’d also like to get a special shout out to Dent May who will be filling the middle spot right after local band, The Golden Boys. His newest record, Do Things, just came out this week, and while it’s got a marked change from his last affair, it’s definitely still got the hooks that made us swoon for Dent early on.  Be sure to show up early to catch all three bands; it’s cheap, plus you can support the local scene by supporting one of our own.

Show Preview: Cave Singers @ Red 7 (6/11)

Date Monday, June 11th
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $10 at the Door

I was so excited to get the chance to see Crocodiles perform tonight at Stubbs that I completely went unaware of the impending show by Cave Singers tonight.  I aim to rectify my oversight, knowing that Cave Singers always bring their A game to the live setting.  Their last record, No Witch, spent a lot of time on my playlist, and I hope you spent some time with it as well.  If you’ve got the funds, then this is definitely a show you should get out and see.  Smoke and Feathers will probably kick things off around 10 PM.

Lost In Austin: Suckers

Nathan and I were just discussing the other day when it was that we really got into Brooklyn based experimental pop group Suckers.  We think it was way back in 2009 when we sent out an email interview to the band for ACL fest and then left very impressed with an amazing live show from the upstart band.  From that point, Suckers has landed on year end lists for music, appeared on award’s lists for performances during SXSW, and eventually played our SXSW show this year.  All this culminated in a love affair with the band that has turned into a major bro-mance.  All that being said, we of course had to ask these guys to take part in our lost in Austin takeaways while they were in town at Red 7 last Friday.  The resulting video is a beautiful take on their new song “Chinese Brail” from the just released Candy Salad.  Follow the jump for video and more info.

Show Preview: Suckers @ Red 7 (5/25)

Date 5/25/12
Location Red 7
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 @ Frontgate

We’ve been looking forward to these guys coming back into town for quite some time now and we’re pleased to let everyone know that amigos Suckers are stopping into Austin on Friday night at Red 7.  As having seen this band live on more than one occasion, I can honestly tell you that $8 is well worth the cost.  Also entertaining your ears for the evening is boy genius Young Man and psych pop group Boyfrndz.  We’ll be there and so should you.

At The Drive-In @ Red 7 Tonight!!!

In case you aren’t tied to your twitter account, you might not even know that the seminal Texas indie rock pioneers were going to be playing at Red 7 on Monday night.  After avoiding the reunion tag for years, the five piece El Paso posse has decided to end all the what-ifs and whens, choosing to bring us all a bit of the past–a past many of us might have missed. Whether or not they’re just doing it for the money, you know that every one in town in will be clamoring for a spare ticket (as the show sold out). Personally, it’s going to be the best opportunity in the world to catch At The Drive-In, as they’ve long eclipsed playing the small venue status, so it’s definitely going to be unique experience. Plus, it gives me an excuse to post this great track from their Vaya EP.  I hope to report back with great things, but if not, there’s still 400 other shows to go out and see this week in Austin.

Show Preview: Pure X @ Red Seven (4/6)

Tickets $8 from Transmission

If you’re not going out of town to be with family for Easter, then you’re in good shape, as there’s some great local music going on all weekend long in Austin.  The first set that caught my eye was Friday’s show over at Red 7 featuring Pure X.  Personally, I thought their album, Pleasure, from last year was one of the best things coming out of town.  And, the few times I’ve seen them, they’ve definitely impressed me with their ability to pull that stuff off live.  Opening acts for the evening will be Troller and God’s Gun.  So, if you’re looking for good tunes Friday, make your way over to Red 7 friends!
