The Berries Do It Again

Matt Berry and his Seattle based project known as, The Berries, released one of my favorite albums last year, Berryland. Since then, I’ve been totally hooked and eagerly awaiting more music to consume from the talented multi-instrumentalist. Well today we’re lucky to enjoy this new one off single called “Ancient Steel”, planned as part of an ongoing single series throughout the year. Reserving any superlatives or adjectives to promote the song, I will simply tell you that it’s time for you to check out this band. Do it now!

Epic New Song Form Unwed Sailor

Seattle based Unwed Sailor is a longtime favorite around the ATH offices. When it comes to mostly instrumental bands, they are likely in the top 3, maybe even top 2, of all time. Never shying away from pumping out new music, band founder and main creator Johnathon Ford just put out an album last year, but has another one in the works for this summer. To preview the new material, check out this epic and banging new track called “Look Alive”. It offers a myriad of musical moments and emotional ranges as it can be soft, mellow and mesmerizing, but then loud, fast, and truly head nod inducing.

Unwed Sailor will release new album Look Alive on June 12th via Old Bear Records.

Synth Pop from Hallows

It’s really interesting to hear what’s being accomplished in the electronic realm of things, like with the Seattle duo Hallows. I thought I had the song all figured out at first, bringing in this driving sparkling synth pop; it was like the sweeter little sister of Crystal Castles. But, then the song took a turn, switched vocalists, and catered to this dark, cavernous haunt, equally as enthralling, however. Things get even more exploratory in the last minute of the tune, bringing in both a little bit of the song’s natural pop tendencies mixed by the tune’s latter dangerous half. This track will appear on the group’s debut Subtle EP, out March 18th via Phage Tapes.

Cozy Slippers Share Will You Disappear Video

Last summer, Cozy Slippers released a delightful 7″ for one of our favorite labels, KUS; we raved about it at the time…and I included it in my year-end indiepop wrap-up. Today, we get another chance to celebrate that release, with the band sharing a video for the B-Side “Will You Disappear?” The video was shot on phone cameras by the band in November as the group toured through the UK. You get a little bit of their journey, bringing you closer to the band, but also some live footage spliced in too! So go on, go on tour with Cozy Slippers and enjoy this little pop tune. Dreamy Pop from Night Hikes

Seattle’s Night Hikes are new on my radar, though I’ve now got my ear focused on the act going forward. They’ve just dropped their new album Chalice, and in order to get you caught up in the storm, I thought I’d share one of my favorite tunes from the LP with you. It’s an atmosphere of dreaminess, with sharp guitar notes hinting at a positive energy flowing through the core, which leaves the space for Olivia Goodby’s vocals.Her vocals are the central force, serving as the glue that holds the whole tune together as things jangle and churn behind her, adding a calm melodic touch to it all. Totally Missed This New Dogbreth LP

I loved the shit out of Second Home (2016), and I felt like Dogbreth generated some decent buzz, so I was surprised to not hear from them. But, like all things, Tristan had to move, so the band changed up until he found friends in Seattle, his new home. And, all of a sudden there’s a brand new LP of great pop rock tracks that you should turn up real loud right this instant. The opening tracks have some punch, but don’t worry about getting burnt out, as you’ll find a few slow jams like “Walk You Again” to sort of cleanse the palate. It’s like this glorious hodgepodge of power pop, pop punk, emo and indie rock, all rolled into this delicious package built for repeat rock listens. Ever Loving is a great LP, and I just now found out about it! Go grab it from the band now!

The Figurants Share Horrible Horses

I kept thinking hard upon how to describe this new tune from The Figurants. How could I explain to you my adoration for this track without using the every day pigeonholing techniques? It’s tough, but I feel like the band reminds me of that one guy everyone worked with who wrote songs while hanging out on break smoking cigarettes; it’s just on the edge of arty, but teetering along the line of neediness. It definitely makes sense that the band call Seattle home, as there’s a certain lineage to the Northwest I hear here. Is nerdcore a thing? Can we make it happen? Whatever, this song rules. You’ll find it on the band’s new album, Indoor Words.

Have Another From The Berries

Another day, another fantastic Seattle band I am currently enamored with. Today my words and praise are focused on the previously posted about The Berries, who have yet another tune for us to enjoy. This one is called “Passing Scene” and treats us again to a beautiful bit of slow-brooding, American style sounds with just the right amount of brightness to keep things interesting. This is a band all of us will be talking about when new album Berryland drops on September 20th. Run for Cover has pre-orders up now.

Tincho Do It Again

Man I think this Seattle band Tincho is really doing something special right now and will likely be growing in fame over the coming months. The band’s soon to be released album, Home Today, will be looked upon as one of the best and most progressive full lengths of the year. Their sound takes old familiar indie rock sounds like Foreign Born or Beach Fossils, and then puts a more modern twist on things with a mature, yet energetic vibe. Don’t believe me? While you can’t get your hands on the full album just yet, today the band shared another single from the record called “Jet-Puffed Marshmallow”. It’s a stunner.

Cozy Slippers Announce New 7″

I feel like it’s getting to the point where any time that I see a new release pop up from Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten that I should just expect greatness. Luckily, when it comes to news of a fresh 7″ from Cozy Slippers, I was already up to date on the band, having been a fan of their Postcards EP (Jigsaw 2018). Their return has those early jangling notes turn more into a woozy dream vibe; they still have the same sharpness, but they meander just a bit on the edges, which actually opens the song up for one of those classic vocal performances. There’s an earnest to the lyrical delivery; it almost feels as if you can hear it as an homage to Jett or Harry in their hey-day…it sparkles but brims with bravado. The new 7″ will be available this Friday via KUS.
