The Hannah Barberas Drop Winter EP

We’ve not hidden our adoration for The Hannah Barberas, and as they share their Winter EP with this world, why not highlight one of my favorite tunes from the record? They don’t even play around here, jumping right in with that jangling indiepop guitar line as the drums shuffle their way into the mix. Of course, the band, always experts at combining vocals, bring the big harmonies here, matching line for line in the chorus to cleverly slide melody through your speakers. I love the fuzzier bit that comes in around 1:35, just giving a little blast of volume to round out the rock n’ roll joy. All proceeds from this EP go to Shelter.

Sunday Records Offers Free Album

The aptly titled Shelter album is being released for free by Sunday Records, in hopes of keeping your love for the purity of pop move strong while we all shelter in place. The Sugar World tune that opens it up is a flat out stunner of indiepop songwriting; it has this spritely bounce and this words like the wind vocals drifting through your speakers. Tracks from the likes of Day & Dream and Fawns of Love definitely up the dream pop ante, in case you were wanting to listen and let the day drift away from you. Plus, nice to hear The Memory Fades do an acoustic version of “Listening to the Marychain.” It’s streaming below, but remember, just because its free doesn’t mean you can’t throw a buck or two to the label!

Casual Pop from Low Key Crush

You stumble across a casual pop song that bores into your consciousness and it’s likely the tune hails from Australia, or even more specific, Melbourne since we’re talking about Low Key Crush. It seems the band takes their name super-seriously, giving us this mellow burner build on this wondrous melody. There’s some understated swagger in the sounds of the guitar, but you’ll need a real close ear to get in there. I like the distant feel of the vocals, as if singer Tim Haines is resigned to just toss the words out on the line, hoping someone, somewhere, finds them. We found them Tim, and we’re so grateful we did!
