Missed This Crepes Tune

The Melbourne scene continues to prove to be one of the more diverse, and prolific, music scenes across the globe…and rising act Crepes dropped a tune from their latest album that I completely missed. Their first single from Channel Four was an energetic number titled “Sexyland,” but they pull back on the rhythm here and let this gem just flow. Lyrics are delivered in the most casual manner, with the bass line the most prominent musical element in the mix…yet you’ll hear synth lines sparkling in the far off. You might also hear a brief nod to Phoenix in the vocal twist during the chorus…but that could just be us. Channel Four is being handled by Deaf Ambitions and Spunk, and is about to hit the streets!

Stream the Ocean Party LP

I think anyone that was fortunate enough to catch the Ocean Party on tour this past Spring would agree that the band is a full-on tour de pop. Every member is a gifted songwriter, which allows for a great bit of diversity…both live and in the studio. They’ve just released Beauty Point, and I can only revel in the joy that you’ll get by spinning this LP on repeat all day. It’s filled with bouncing rhythms, synth stabs and vocal accompaniment in all the right places. Honestly, while I’ve loved the band forever, this might be their most complete record to date…not a single song misses its mark. It’s available now from Emotional Response (US) and Spunk Records (AUS).

A Brand New Pop Hit from The Ocean Party

It seems like The Ocean Party are a never-ending source of pop hits, though it probably helps having six songwriters in the group. Regardless, the band is back with another gem from their forthcoming Beauty Point LP. I love how it opens with this casual brooding sensation, almost sullen in nature. But, you can’t hold back the band’s natural knack for an emphatic pop chorus, as they display here. Something about this band just makes you feel good about yourself. Look for the new album to hit on August 18th via Spunk and Emotional Response (US).

Brand New Ocean Party Track

One of the great things about having a multitude of great singers and songwriters in one band, such as The Ocean Party, is that they never seem to stop writing music. They’ve returned home from an extensive US tour, which surely won them more fans; and, they return home with a new track for your ears. How do you listen to pop music like this and not fall in love; it even includes a nice little horn serenading you in the song’s latter half. All we know at this point is the band plan to release a new album at some point in 2017, so stay tuned for even more great pop.

New Pop from Heart Beach

Heart Beach LP Kiss Your Face July2016 PRINT READYIn case you haven’t heard of Heart Beach, they’re probably one of the great Oceanic exports…not from Sydney or Melbourne…they’re from Tasmania. They’ve slowly begun to unleash a few tracks from their forthcoming record, Kiss Your Face, and I think you deserve to spend a little bit of time with the group today. They trade male/female vocals throughout many of the album’s tracks, and ultimately leave you thirsting for more tunes. One of the tracks below popped up on a 7″ in March, but there’s a brand new one here to get you in the mood. Look for the LP to hit on November 11th via Spunk Records.

Brand New Music from The Ocean Party

oceanpartyIt’s that time of month where we give you more new music from our favorite Aussie’s, The Ocean Party. The band’s been pretty prolific, getting an album a year out, including last year’s Light Weight, which we helped find a home in the States. Here they are set to release their newest, Restless, and the titular track illustrates how much they’ve grown as a band; the production and accompaniment on this track alone demonstrates what a huge pop group they’ve become. Restless is being handled by Spunk; it will have a worldwide release on September 30th…get ready for another album of great tunes. And! If you’re in the States, look for the band to head our way soon!

New Music from the Ocean Party

oceanpartyLast year we released Light Weight on our ATH Records label, but the boys in Ocean Partynever stop writing great songs, and they’re already back with another album for Spunk Records. It’s a spirited number, further displaying the band’s growth; they no longer sound like just another bunch spewing the dole wave gospel, but rather a fully formed collective of great pop songwriters. Maturity might be the best word, but no one’s worn it better than these lads. Oh, and they kicked out a great video to go with the song that you can check out over HERE. Restless will come your way later on in this year, with a US tour scheduled for early 2017.

Brand New ATH Records Single: The Ocean Party

11856249_10153084418697263_15473172251284196_oI’ve stayed relatively close to home with our ATH Records label, but as I’ve previously mentioned, I’m rather ecstatic to be releasing the newest album from Australia’s the Ocean Party, along with Spunk Records. Their latest single is precisely the reason I agreed to get involved with the act; it has this bubbling post-punk bass line, then swings into this luscious bit of angular guitar pop. It’s short, sweet and finds its way straight to your soul.  They’ve titled the new record, Light Weight, and it’s US release date is currently being pushed to January.

ATH Records to Work with The Ocean Party

oceanpartyUp until now, I’ve stuck mostly close to home for releasing records via ATH Records, and I’ve been really proud of that.  But, every once in a while, you have to step outside your comfort box and do something big.  So, I’ve decided to work with Spunk Records and the Aussie outfit, The Ocean Party.  They’ve already got a couple of great releases to their name, which we’ve covered on our site, so I’m really happy to be part of this new effort, Light Weight. The album will be out in October, but for now, you can grab a download of their excellent first single below.

Check HERE for updates and other ATH Records releases like Rose Sélavy/Templo X and the Lochness Mobsters (both out this week).

Bored Nothing is Back Too

boardJust last week I was talking about Bitch Prefect, who were in the latest Aussie musical explosion (not that that ever stopped), but in that post I talked about Bored Nothing, who were one of my favorite acts of that grouping.  Somehow, I missed that the band had a new album, Some Songs, ready for release, along with this single that’s below.  While the production is a touch different, it’s still clear that the project holds onto the stylistic touches that gave listeners an intimate experience with the songwriting.  Now that I’m on this tune, I just picked up the LP from Spunk Records, so I can indulge just a bit more.
