Bops of the Week for July 12- 16

Here we go again my friends, starting off another week, and what better way than to have a nicely curated collection of great tunes from last week for your ears. A few strong singles with album announcements like Hovvdy‘s new tune, as well as a few jams from some of our favorite records that came out last week, like Wojtek the Bear and Always You. Plus, as always, we’re all over the map taste-wise, so you get a little of everything, but starting off with that ridiculously glorious Cindy tune from their forthcoming 1:2 LP. Happy Monday folks!

Driving New Single From Tennis System

As you are checking out those sweet albums posted by Lankford this weekend, might I suggest you also add this new Tennis System tune to your playlists? The song, “Dizzy”, features this incredibly catchy mix of driving, washed out rock music with the piercing vocals of Matt Taylor. Having been a fan for many years, I can honestly say that this may be some of the best material we have heard from Taylor and his band. Check out now.

Tennis System is also releasing a new album this fall called Autophobia. Pre-orders with tons of other cool merch are live now.

Tennis System Offer Another Hit

Tennis System is simply one of those bands I’ve been talking about for years who somehow continue to fly just a bit under the radar. The guys have put out some incredibly solid tunes over the years and it’s been easy for me to show my support. Tomorrow the L.A. based trio will release their latest LP Lovesick on Graveface Records (pre-order here). If you aren’t sold on the band yet, I suggest you check out the latest single from the album “Rotting Out”. This is post-punk, shoegazy bliss.

Show Review: Appleseed Cast @Barracuda (6/27)

Myself and Mr. Gray pretended like we were young again on a cool Thursday night in Austin and made it out to Barracuda to see the famed Appleseed Cast. We talked some soccer, shared too many beers, and discussed the validity of The Cast music as a soundtrack to major life events. It was a great bill with many hits played. Hit the jump for more words, full setlist and some fancy ass photos from B. Gray.

Saving you more blabbing about my fandom of the legendary Lawrence, KS band The Appleseed Cast, this is a simple post to remind you about the band’s show at Barracuda on Thursday. Doors for the show open at 8pm with our local amigo Booher opening up the night with L.A. based Tennis System fulfilling the direct support slot. From what I’ve read online, it sounds like the new stuff is killing it live. Speaking of, the band’s new album The Fleeting Light of Impermanence is currently available for pre-order, but I also hear the band have some copies of the vinyl for sale on tour. See you there!

SxSW 2016: Welcome to the Jangle

Popfest's JangleThank you, Spider House. Thank you, Mother Nature. Thank you, bands.

The weather was absolutely perfect. We were given blue skies, the occasional cloud, a lovely breeze to pair with some of the best music heard at SxSW. I mean, Diet Cig, The Spook School, Beverly and Brothers In Law to name a few, and add splendid local talent like Summer Salt, Rose Selavy, Ramesh and an Austin reunion of Literature. How can I dare say there was even more awesome?

Check out words from Team ATH about best-ofs, hashtag all of it kicked ass, and plenty of pics.

New Jam From Tennis System

unnamed (19)I’ve talked about Tennis System several times on this here website and I’ve always enjoyed their ever evolving sound. Today this new single called “Here We Go” might just be the most impressive piece of material I’ve heard from the band since their earlier beginnings. I’m really digging the break down of the chorus here with the lead guitar wail and perfectly driving drum hits. It’s a hit.

Tennis System will release this track as a new single out on Friday via Papercup Music. A new full length is coming sometime later this summer. Oh and stay tuned as the band will be in town for SXSW.
