Last Week’s Jams (4.14 – 4.18)

A fairly busy week as we got a little more back on routine writing last week, and we were especially excited for all the pop fans out there. New stuff from Jeanines, the Perfect English Weather, Lightheaded, and Lost Film had what cures the ills, and man, were there some special tracks mentioned above. Circled around to hear some Austin, and Austin adjacent stuff with Little Marzarn, BS and former ATX resident Lauren Green and Tan Cologne. Plus, M. Maly gave us a peek at what’s in store for Pscyh Fest, throwing in some coverage with King Hannah being highlighted on the playlist. Plus, great new albums from the Convenience and Mythical Motors rounded the week out properly. What was your fave?

Last Week’s Jams (4.7 – 4.11)

We covered a shit load of great music last week, and as is likely to happen, we’re a bit all over the place, sonically. There’s definitely a fair share of punk-ish stuff like The Golden Toad and Second Act, but some classic pop acts of days of old have returned. I mean, can we give a shout out for Comet Gain and Brideshead both announcing brand new albums? I premiered a brand new track from Gentle Leader XIV, and RayRay continued with our undying love of new Night Beats. Plus, you can’t go wrong with new Austin stuff from French Film (not streaming) and Mobley, so bopping there as well. Just find a favorite, as you’re bound to find something joyful.

Another Single from The Convenience

If you’re lucky, you’ll be getting your hands on a copy of Like Cartoon Vampires, the brand new record that The Convenience will be dropping this Friday. Before we get there, there’s one more little indie rock boogie to get your feet moving and your energy going. The song carries this certain swagger, sweating through the speakers as the group bring out this rad brand of rock n’ roll. It’s got that feel where the vibrancy of the live show bleeds through the recording, though if I’m being honest, you can see how things could get a whole lot of amped up if the group’s cranking up the noise at a tiny club. If you dig a good time, grab the new LP before it drops on Winspear next Friday.

Last Week’s Jams (9.23 – 9.27)

We’re drawing towards the end of the year, and while that means arbitrary musical lists of things, what it also means is that we’ve got a few more records hanging out to enjoy before the year is up. Personally, there were some great new songs from trauma ray, EggS and the Wickies, which indicated that these acts have a lot of promise to deliver. Best Bets dropped their latest LP, which was on our radar, not to mention the new release from Being Dead and Feeling Figures. Loved the introduction to Coldwave, and it never hurts to wrap up the end of the week with new music from Constant Follower!

The Convenience Share Two New Singles

New Orleans outfit The Convenience are back with two fresh tracks that definitely have piqued our interest this morning. On one hand, they take a page from acts like The Embarassment or Omni with “Routiner”, stretching out jagged riffs and creative rhythms into a post-punk vibe that’s balances between frantic and pensive. They flip the script for “Postcard,” which features some great fiddle work from Max of Lawn; the chorus in this one definitely hits home, feeling like the best moments of some of our favorite Aussie bands. Little bits of buzzsaw creep in, filling out the backdrop, going beyond the basics. Both tracks are available today courtesy of Winspear.
