Another Ditty from the Infinites

It feels like the Infinites are one of the hottest commodities in town right now, and by that, I mean, they’re one of the absolute bands bouncing about. But, there are those that live outside the confines of our fair city, and you should definitely put the band on your “must listen” to list. Press play on this new single from their forthcoming LP and you’ll get intoxicated by the guitar tones; they have that natural bounce we adore from the surf-rock genre, though its presentation with the vocals definitely leaves it in more dreampop territory. I think it also shows the expert craftsmanship of the group, as the song seemingly comes to an abrupt end; why go forth when you’ve said all there is to say in a song? The band’s self-titled LP comes out via First Human Records this Friday…with an In-Store performance over at Waterloo if you’re here in town!

Fresh Video from The Infinites

Having already fallen in love with “Nina Segovia,” it only seems fitting we follow up our Infinites coverage with another stunning pop number from the ATX band. I was hooked by the opening sixteen seconds, starting with a wonky pop guitar that’s met by a fuzzy counterpoint around the 14 second mark…and this is just the start of the band’s pop sensibility. Singer Jared Leibowich drapes his vocals atop those feuding pop guitar lines, building this delicious layer of pop frosting that has your toes tapping and hips swinging. Speaking of Jared, he’s also responsible for the video, using archival footage to weave into the storyline of one Scott McMurray. Just listen through to the 2:18 mark, please. If that guitar solo doesn’t make your day INFINITEly better, then I’ll buy you coffee next time we meet. If you love this, and you should, go grab the self-titled record from First Human Records; it’s out April 26th.

The Infinites Ready Debut LP

If I were to pick out an Austin artist that would break out into the world to win everyone’s hearts, the odds of that group being the Infinites are pretty high. What began as a looped guitar project between Dan Levine (Ghetto Ghouls) and Jared Zoltar (the Zoltars) has a evolved quickly into a well-oiled pop making machine. In their newest single, the guitar lines dance and flutter, jumping out sharply when emphasis is needed. Everyone else takes on a casual vibe, waiting for the the vocals to intoxicate; I love how Jared naturally has this hook in the way he’s delivering his lines, matched perfectly by those guitar parts. The band will be releasing their debut self-titled LP on First Human Records on April 26th.

Some Free Week Photos

Free Week is great. The concept of having people fill venues so bartenders and stage crews have a little cash in their pockets is totally a get-behind theme. Now, my epic level of cynicism that creeps in from time to time means that I will give the evil eye to anyone mad about one-in-one-out at a venue. These bands are playing all over town, all year long and sometimes opening for a touring band you would think is too expensive to go see. #value Let’s go, Austin, spend that twelve bucks.

My Free Week rant is over. Let’s get on to some notables and photos. A. Sinclair is a constant fave for rock and or roll. Abram Shook lends credibility to any music catalog. That performance had two-thirds of Feverbones; they are wicked excited for the new record, naturally so are we. Tres Oui‘s invisible bass player had a killer set (#sarcasm). Space-sparse of Soft Healer was a reset. I got to see The Infinites at Beerland as a full band. I do miss a little of the DIY nature of looping to fill sounds, but the layered gazy post punk sounded really rad with guitars filling the room. Fave thing of the time I spent Red Rivering.

Peep the gallery. I spent time taking photos of friends and the people that make Free Week go. I even used a flash. Crazy right?

I love y’all.

Show Pics: Pollen RX Release Party

Hi. Photo tech, here.

Sunbelt Emptiness is a triumph. How is that for a quotable?

Having torn up a couple of pizzas at King Bee (you must go, Billy and Collette rule), +1 and I made our way to see all the friends over at Cheer Up for the Pollen RX release party. High on my list was checking out The Infinites plus a little quality time with Kay Odyssey. I hit the wall a little after Pollen RX’s nearly perfect set; we could have used a little more vocal in the mix from Maud. #Gremlins I should have stuck around for Deep Time and Popper Burns from field reports.

Click through, pictures and stuff to follow.
