Last Week’s Jams (3.13 – 3.17)

We obviously had a busy week being out and about in Austin, but we did cover some tracks early in the week we wanted to remind you of from the likes of Cindy and John Andrew. But, the rest of this week’s playlist of tracks includes singles from all the band’s we caught live and fell in love with during SXSW. Fortunately for you, the three of us all have distinctly different tastes, with lots of overlap, so you’re going to get a pretty varied jam session here this Monday morning. Sit back, and stream on.

Meet The SXSW Band: The Natural Lines

Many of the bands covered for our SXSW interviews have been mostly newer, or maybe even unknown to some, but today we have a true legend and personal music favorite sharing some responses. Though he recently hung up the old “PA” moniker, indie legend Matt Pond continues to make incredible music with a bunch of his music friends in The Natural Lines. I was very excited when Matt agreed to take part in our interview questions and not the least bit surprised when he shot them back within a few short hours. The man is a true pro. Hit the jump for full interview from Matt Pond as part of his new outfit The Natural Lines.

Last Week’s Jams Today (8.29 – 9.2)

Strangely, I felt like we didn’t cover a ton of territory last week, but then I noticed we have quite a playlist, and that’s even with a few jams not quite making the streaming services of choice. I opened the playlist with “It Keeps Happening” from Germany’s Matching Outfits; I couldn’t stop playing the tune all week, so I figured it was best up front. We also got new stuff from forever-faves like Peel Dream Magazine and the Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness. Stoked on both the new Eerie Wanda and Submotile tunes, and RayRay loved that latest Disq tune. Settle in for the day and turn it up nice and loud.

Introducing The Natural Lines

Matt Pond is one of those musicians who almost feels like close family at this point as I’ve been listening to his music since the very beginning and covering his tunes in the earliest days of ATH. Seriously, one of our very first posts back in 2008 was about an EP from Matt Pond PA. Wild. Well wild as it is, here in 2022, Matt Pond is rebranding himself under the name The Natural Lines which is still mostly Pond solo but also with the help of a revolving door of friends and musicians. To kick off the new project, Pond is sharing this single called “The Problem is Me” which is a lush, atmospheric take on folk inspired indie rock, of which Pond has made himself famous over the years. Love the new project/direction.

The Natural Lines will release this track as part of a new EP entitled First Five, out October 14th via Bella Union.
