Saturday night, Austin welcomed some locals back into town at The North Door in the form of Loma. The band has been touring fairly extensively on their new Sub Pop debut self titled record. Having seen Cross Record a few years back, I knew that I would be in for a night of lush sounds and elegant vocals, but I wasn’t too sure as to how the new material would play out in the live setting, especially at a venue that is a little off the beaten Red River path. All doubts were erased–Loma is a force to be reckoned with, and I expect big things from this band. Click through to read some more brief thoughts on the evening.
If you haven’t been listening to Loma and their killer self titled LP, then you’ve been missing out on one of the latest and greatest new bands to surface out of Austin(ish) in the past year. Now, the members of Loma aren’t strangers to the Austin scene, as the band is comprised of 2/3 parts Cross Record and 1/3 parts Shearwater, but it’s time for us to witness this combination of Austin scenesters in this unique form for once and for all. Loma will be playing in their hometown this Saturday, April 21 at The North Door, and it’s in your best interest to go ahead and buy yourself a ticket for the very low price of 12$ while they’re still available. To top it all off, the lovely Jess Williamson will be doing the opening honors. You’re going to be out this Saturday anyways, why not enjoy some beautiful folk driven indie rock while you’re at it? Doors are at 9, get there early for a full night of tunes.
There’s a lot of shows coming through Austin this month, and what better way to celebrate than by offering you a chance to win a pair of tickets to Matt Pond PA!? He’s touring the states behind the sound of his excellent LP, The State of Gold, which came out not too long ago. He’s been a huge part of the music scene since 98′, just illustrating how great songs and musicians can stand the test of time. Opening for him will be Laura Stevenson over at the North Door. You can also buy yourself a set of tickets on your own HERE, if you’re not into playing contests.
If you want free tickets, leave a comment with your favorite album of 2015…I’ll pick a winner. You can also tweet your response to @austintownhall. I’ll pick a winner on Thursday at NOON.

It’s time once again friends and loved ones to bring ourselves together for yet another ATH Council Meeting at the North Door. This Friday evening, we will once again grace your presence in the back bar of the ND with awesome tunes ranging every decade of our existence on earth. As always, we’ll have plenty of hits to nod your head to and move your ass to as well. Let’s not forget that North Door also has some of the best drink specials on the east side, our favorite being the “Son of a Gun” a.k.a. “Hell on Wheels”. Come join us, drink, and be merry! We’ll start spinning our tunes a little later this go around, somewhere near the 9pm mark. Come say hello![audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/01-Nightcall.mp3]

There was another Council Meeting at The North Door and it just so happened that friends of ATH, The Great Nostalgic and Tiger Waves, were playing through the curtains. What a lovely way to spend an evening; playing jams and shooting jams being jammed. Lots of jamming, in fact. Jam has become our favorite thing.
Tasty drinks, booty drops, plenty of extras joining in because of multiple birthdays. You may have missed it, but it was documented for posterity. Click through…
It’s that time again; time for your favorite local DJs to play the hits all night long! We’ll be gathering with our friends over at the North Door on Friday night to dance, sing and have an all out good time. Pretty sure you’ll enjoy at least half the songs we’ll play, and if not, then you can at least enjoy the excellent beverages and the tasty grub from Tamale Molly. We’ll start kicking things off around 8, and I’m sure we’ll be throwing down until close, or later. Oh, and if you’re a fan of the site and live in Austin, you need to be there to help us celebrate our writer RayRay’s 29th birthday. He only has one more year until he’s officially old, so let’s start him off the right way.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/04-youre-black-and-blue.mp3]

That’s right ladies and gents, we’re back this Friday evening with another ATH council meeting at The North Door. What is a council meeting you ask? Well, it’s a meeting of the most upstanding gentlemen on the ATH staff and their high class friends. We all gather ’round the bar while DJ Nate-L and RayRay spin the hottest hits this side of the Mississppi. Rumor has it that the last council meeting consisted of cheap drinks, tasty tunes from all decades, loose women, and tons of booty shakin’. Seriously, everyone had way more fun than you did pissing your savings away on West 6th. Don’t forget that admission is free and your ATH Djs usually kick things off around 8pm. Come say hi.
Head to the North Door website for a map of it’s location (it’s behind theND).[audio: http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/3-Life-Magazine-final.mp3]
