Last Week’s Jams (4.10 – 4.14)

Looking back at last week, there was tons of really great stuff out there, and admittedly, there are a few things we just didn’t have time to get to on our end. But, stoked for Austin, as there was great new music from Being Dead, Transy Warhol, Holy Wire and new project Feeling Small. My favorite track from the most recent Blues Laywer LP got a video treatment, so I had to have that one out. RayRay covered that huge banger from Night Beats, who will be in town for Psych Fest. And, one of my favorite SXSW acts Snooper announced their new LP too, so you get a bunch of winning hits!

The Orielles Announce Goyt Method EP

While the Orielles received rave reviews for their last LP, Tableau, you’ve got to hand it to the band for not resting on that, and tossing out what seems like what will be a huge curveball for their fans. They’ve announced the Goyt Method EP, which is essentially selected bits and pieces of Tableau reimagined and turned into brand new tracks. On the first single, it’s almost as if they’re channeling Squarepusher or Aphex Twin in order to construct their own electronic infused pop music. Interestingly, some of the rhythms from their live show still feel as if they’re being captured in this track. Their willingness to take this leap illustrates why all of should be keeping an eye on the Orielles; the new EP is out on May 26th via Heavenly.

The Orielles Work with Art Is Hard

oriellesIf you’re one of those small boutique record labels, you’ve got to do unique offerings in order to keep people coming back, and Art is Hard Records has always been at the forefront of that movement. They just announced they’ll be doing a 7″ flexizine with The Orielles, along with a 20 page coloring zine to boot. The song itself has that casual indie rock feeling to it; I can even hear some sonic similarities to Hinds in the vocal delivery…that should excite some folks. It’s set for a release on April 1st, and as always, it will be super limited, so get at it if you’re interested.
