Sorry I Missed This: The Bell Streets

Amidst all the global pandemic hoopla, it’s allowed that something truly great gets to slide by my ears, like the debut album from the Bell Streets. The band features Josh from Sugargliders/Steinbecks fame and Nick Batterham, for those of you falling the breadcrumbs of great indiepop stuffs. Opener “Brooklyn” is definitely one of the immediate highlights, offering a bouncy pop feel with ringing guitars and pure pop vocals. You’ll also find songs that are more contemplative in nature, though as rewarding, such as the slow burn of “Crying Inside” or “About to Find Out.” There’s a great amount of diversity within, so I highly suggest you check out Monument today!

The Steinbecks Ready New Album

CD69The welcome return of Matinee Recordings in 2014 comes with the announcement that has me pretty excited over here; the label will be releasing a full-length album from The Steinbecks…the band that features the Meadows brothers of Sugargliders fame.  Kick to Kick with The Steinbecks is the name of the album, filled with jangling  goodness that is likely to make any indiepop fan swoon.  There’s a solid little bit of bounce on the track below, while the vocals seem to take on the notion of longing for personal change, adding a serious touch to an otherwise peppy song.  You’ll be able to get the record on April 22nd everywhere, but it’s available exclusively from the label HERE.

Fresh Indie Pop from The Steinbecks

steinbecksAs promised, it’s been a remarkable week for our friends at Matinee Recordings. Already with two new releases under their belt, they return with a new 7″ from the Steinbecks…the band’s first release in six years. It’s a preview of what’s to come when the band release a full-length later in the year.  From the moment this track opens, it’s the vocals that take the focus, with the accompanying music sitting politely in the background.  Lyrically, it’s got the classic touch of great indiepop, referencing personal sentiments throughout.  It’s hard not to fall in love with a song like this playing on your stereo; you can make that happen by heading to Matinee now!
