So when we thought making an albums of the year post was hard, this one proved to be even harder.  How do you take literally thousands of songs and narrow it down to the best 40 of the year?  Not too sure how to answer that question, but we tried.  Each of these songs scream 2008 in our ears.  As evident by this list, the year in music was quite a good one and we had some tough choices to make.  We’ve got some of the songs streaming for you or links to the song on youtube.  Follow the jump to see if your favorite tune of the year made the list.

101X Worforce @ Emo’s (12/11)

The 101X Independent Worforce is putting on quite the show at Emo’s this Thursday evening and we’re here to give you the details.  First off, the lineup is outta site with The Ting Tings, Black Kids, Eagles of Death Metal, Airborne Toxic Event, and even local boys The Black and White Years on the bill for the event.  Showtime is set to kick off at 9pm.  Unfortunately, tickets have been sold out for quite some time so try searching craigs list for a bargain.

Let the season of giving begin!  One of the hottest bands in the UK right now, The Ting Tings, will be embarking on a rare US tour which includes a stop at the Parish in Austin. The show isn’t until Sunday the 19th of October, but we’ve got a couple of tickets to give away to one lucky winner. On top of the free tickets, our winner will also receieve a signed drum head from the band. That’s not all.. just to keep things lively around here, we’ll award a runner-up with a copy of the band’s latest CD We Started Nothing. To enter, drop a comment that tells us why you’re excited about the Ting Tings leaving their island home and stopping off in Austin.
