Brand New Sonic Avenues Jam

sonicavesDid someone say new Sonic Avenues? Oh you did? Then I’m posting about it. Interestingly, this has a very Canadian feel about it, like an edgier version of Handsome Furs. There’s the same propulsive style, and the delivery is akin tothe aforementioned act. But, these guys rock a bit harder, as you’d expect from an act on Dirtnap Records. They build in that explosion around the 1.45 minute mark, then settle back in to make sure you never forgot that they adore pop sensibility. Their new record, Disconnector, will be out on October 7th…and I’ll be picking it up.

Digging This Funky Psych From Stone Cold Fox

unnamed-7First off, hat’s off to Stone Cold Fox from Brooklyn for their excellent band name. Secondly, once you listen to “Morning Light” below, you’ll understand that this band’s got way more going for them than just a great name. This song is the perfect blend of indie rock and psych, which moves along in a slow groove that begs head-bobbing and overall jamming. Not only that, but the band builds to the end of the song, letting the fuzzy guitars grow louder and more present. Overall, it’s a great laid-back track–one that you will definitely revisit throughout the day. Take a listen and get ready for Tunnel Vision, which is their forthcoming EP and is out April 29th.

New Music from Hooded Fang

hoodI’ve been thinking about what happened to Mike Sniper and Blank Dogs; it’s left a big void in my life of dark electronic influenced tunes…until this Hooded Fang came across. This seems like the natural progression of that style, although there’s definitely a more spastic element that recalls some early art-rock moments. Another benefit, is the work comes from a full band, and you can tell in the song’s structure that it’s more than just a sum of working parts, or pre-recorded parts. The band will release Venus on Edge on May 13 via Daps Records.

New Single from Forever Cult

foreverThis Forever Cult band is new to me, but I like what I hear from the Leeds group. Their new single blasts forth with some catch whoohoos before settling into some casual hook-laden vocal delivery. Musically, there’s a garage crunch to what the group’s tossing out, and combined with the vocals, you can see how seeing these guys live might just be one of the most enjoyable times of your life. It brims with exuberance, though still enough discord to keep it mildly dangerous. You can grab this track from the Too Pure Singles Club on November 27th.
