Have You Listened to Tim Chaplin? Why Not?

timBedroom pop is a genre that seems to have grown, but the sad part of that is watching bands or songwriters intentionally go after that aesthetic. But, with Tim Chaplin, you get something entirely different, you get an artist that does it out of necessity, out of a need to release and record music in his own manner. Luckily for all of us, Bleeding Gold Records has opted to release a collection of Tim’s music written between 1996 and 2010, titling it Boy to Make Me Worry. This is a look at a true craftsman, an artist that needs no help and one that now has 39 songs for you to listen to, if you hadn’t gotten into him before.

Another Day Another Gorgeous Bully Tune

gogeWhile I don’t want to post the same old same old from the blogosphere, I will willingly post the same old same old from bands I love. Gorgeous Bully, in case you haven’t noticed, have been on my list of great jams for some time. This time it’s a pretty straight forward jam, lamenting the fact that our singer doesn’t have much to do…and you know, maybe that’s good because it helps write more tracks that I can’t ever seem to get enough of this work. Might not even be released anywhere other than right here…so enjoy.

Obsessed with Beach Baby

12400736_995517367186303_5526766828372926204_nWhat else could we possible say about Beach Baby that we haven’t already covered at this point? Try a search for the band and you’ll return at last 5 or 6 results. Seriously, just hit play on this new song “Sleeperhead” and fall victim to the sweet tunes that have already captivated the entire ATH team. Carry on.

Sit Back and Enjoy The Crookes

avatars-000069037526-aoum01-t500x500I’ve mentioned UK band The Crookes several times before on our website and the band has always been hovering a bit in that not huge yet should be area.  Today I think the band may be breaking out with this new single “The World is Waiting”.  This is truly a brit pop gem here with some incredible, driving guitars and this overall sense of urgency permeating through.  I’m seeing a lot to be enjoyed here.

The Crookes will drop Lucky Ones via Modern Outsider on January 29th.

Another Hit From Pleasure Beach

Screen-Shot-2015-04-22-at-7.06.13-PMBack in April we heard this great new track called “Go” from Belfast group Pleasure Beach and the entire ATH crew became fans instantly.  Today we’ll see the versatility of this group with a brand new, and completely different, song entitled “Hayley”.  This one isn’t exactly the upbeat and catchy tune we heard in the spring, it’s more of a slow burning, crooner beauty.  For me, this is showing a band who might really have some staying power.  Continue.

Pleasure Beach will drop their debut EP on October 30th.

Brand New Single From Blaenavon

10514738_720240444695657_404149877485594319_nI’d be a terrible person if I didn’t share this new song with you called “Destiny’s Mild” from up and coming U.K. band Blaenavon.  The sound is a mixture of angst ridden Twilight sad and some of the more upbeat and pop sounds of Foals.  I’d think with two big name drops like that, you’re already hitting play and enjoying.

The Miss World EP will come out on October 30th via Trangressive Records.

Electro Jam From Sykoya

12038325_1103412179682543_134919415656685836_nMan it seems like this time of year is super slow with quality new music so I tend to get overly excited when something interesting comes my way.  My exciting find for today comes from a brand new group out of the UK called Sykoya.  The track we have to share with you today is entitled “Closer” and features some enticing, darker, electronic style pop themes.  Think a band like Phantogram mixed with say Chelsea Wolfe or even Beach House.  Some bold names thrown out there I know, but after a few listens, I’m sure you’ll see what I mean.

These up and comers will drop Here during the early part of 2016.

Chilled Out Vibes from Younghusband

younghusbandThe guys in Younghusband are quickly building a name for themselves at they prep for their second LP, touring with the likes of Loop, Slowdive and Jacco Gardner. Musically, they’re crafting tunes that are probably closely aligned with the newer brand of psychedelia, though listening to this track it seems like more of a pop sensibility feel to it; it’s almost a straightforward pop song written for the indie spectrum.  The title is Dissolver, and its set for an October 30th release date via ATP Records.

More From Flyte

11260570_901374956565298_6847506727576042280_nFlyte is a London based band I think we can all agree is full of fun pop vibes perfect for perking you up out of a funk.  Now Nicole already shared their debut single with you earlier this summer, so I’m riding the coat tails a bit with this sweet new jam “Please Eloise”.  This is a song perfect for a bright and sunny summer time party or a dance fest on your Saturday night.  I’m already dancing in place….

Playful Single from Owl & Mouse

owlzImmediately, there’s a simplicity to this song from Owl & Mouse.  It’s just a little ukulele backed by a solemn piano chord, soon accompanied by Hannah Botting’s voice. Still, the basic approach wraps itself around your ears, drawing you close into the lyrics, discussing the emotions of saying goodbye.  As the song unfolds there’s some really lush accompaniment filling in the space that lays empty…there’s added strings and really light percussion.  It’s a remarkable start for the group’s debut, Departures, which is being released by Fika Recordings later this year.  Find yourself falling in love with this number today.
