Let’s Have One More From Ultrviolence

It’s clear now that I can’t get enough of this new music from Calgary based post-punk band Ultrviolence. Man behind the project Nate Jespersen has created this beautiful sound blending together the best parts ofbands like Cold Cave and Depeche Mode with some super gritty vocal delivery. His latest single, “Dead Bedrooms”, finds many of those same elements coming through and I’m once again pleased as punch to hear more.

The Forty Knives EP drops on May 12th via Northern Lights Records.

More From Ultrviolence

A short few weeks ago Mr. B Gray shared with you an exciting new single from Canadian based post punk band Ultrviolence. Today we’ve got another legit new single entitled “Shadows of the Thief”. The same heavy, dark, and brooding elements are still here, but I’m really loving the addition of a slick little guitar bit bringing some brightness to the otherwise dark track. Gray and Ray know what’s up, listen to Ultrviolence.

Be sure to pick up Forty Knives EP on May 12th via Northern Light Records.

Building Post Punk From Ultrviolence

Ultrviolence is described as a “Canadian post-punk collective that moves the listener relentlessly through waves of peaks and valleys drawing you in with its lyrical truth.” Copying and pasting press blurbs is rarely a method I like to use, but in this case it is probably easier than breaking out the thesaurus and looking up post punk.

The reality is that I have been locked in on the post punk thing over the last few months (read that as forever) and I am always happy to hear new stuff to share. “Guillotine” is straight forward, the bass line, guitar plucks and synth flourishes ride through the first verse setting up the gradual build and sustain before release. It is lead track on the EP Forty Knives which will land on Northern Light on May 12th.
