Witching Waves Share The Valley Video

I absolutely love the contrast in the new single from Witching Waves; it sets up this huge emotional impact in the chorus that I makes nerds like me swoon. When the track opens, it’s all discordant, angular riffs and thumping drums; Emma’s vocals are shouted sharply, matching her pounding of the drums. But, a slight warming of the guitars opens the chorus to a softer vocal performance, aided by a layering of backing vocals kicking in just the right amount of melody to really polish off the hook. And, just as you’re charmed, they flip it back and go right on pounding and shredding away, in the best way possible! They release Streams and Waterways on December 1st via Specialist Subject Records.

Soft Power Records Final Release is Dora Maar

flightsIt’s always a sad day when a label has to call it a day, so I’m really bummed that Soft Power Records (home to Witching Waves) will be calling it a day with their final release being the latest EP from Dora Maar, Flights. If you haven’t listened to Dora Maar, or even heard of them, then perhaps this is a great place to start. I love the album’s opener, working with a vocal atop skittering guitar and percussive elements; it bursts forth into this beautiful moment of bright pop for the chorus, swinging your spirits high in the air before setting you back down to settle back into the groove. You’ll be able to grab this release on August 27th, but let’s wish Bek and Graeme good luck in all the future brings them!

Witching Waves Is the Coolest Band You Might Not Know

witchingwavesOkay, so if you’ve been following our pages, we’ve covered the band before, but if not, this might be your first introduction to the promising UK act, Witching Waves. It’s hard to place them in any particular genre; they combine dark elements of post punk with catchy rhythmic bouncing from the jangling pop arena. The vocals border on psychedelia and hooky twee…so it’s no surprise they can’t be defined. Their album Crystal Cafe will be released in the US via HHBTM Records on February 26th, so get your wallets ready.

Pleased to Meet You: Witching Waves

withcingwavesBefore this morning I had little to no knowledge of Witching Waves, but I’ve spent the better part of my morning scouring the Internet for information on the London trio. They’ve got a record of covers, a few singles and the Fear of Falling Down LP, which came out in 2014…making waves all the way across the sea. The band have just finished up recording a brand new album, signing on to work with HHBTM for the release of Crystal Cafe. Think of angular female-fronted punk/post-punk, along the lines of Grass Widow…with a slightly more pop-centric focus. Look for the album in early 2016, but while you’re waiting, enjoy this killer new track to round out your day.
