SXSW Discovery: Beach Fossils

I had heard of Beach Fossils before SXSW, but in this world of constant music exchange, I guess I glanced over them.  That is until I saw their rocking set at the Force Field/Terrorbird Party on Wednesday.  They definitely sounded a lot poppier than what I remember hearing, and you could tell they were having fun on stage, which is always a good thing!  They recently recorded a studio session for Insound you can check out HERE. But, just in case you’re not into that, we’ve got a tune for you to check out as well that comes off their recent 7″ for Woodsist.

New Tunes from White Fence

This is Tim Presley of Darker My Love.  He has a new project called White Fence, and this jam has been floating around all day, though I heard it just before SXSW.  It’s got a real dark psychedelic feel to it, and though comparisons have been made to Love, it doesn’t have that same sexual power as Arthur Lee, it’s a solid brooding mess none the less. I think you’ll dig it.  And if you do enjoy, look for an album in April on Woodsist.

SXSW Watchlist: Fergus and Geronimo

f&gWe all know what a great music scene Austin has, but SXSW gives us all a chance to support our Texas brethren, and we’re here to do our part by highlighting Denton’s Fergus and Geronimo.  Primarily the work of Andrew Savage and Jason Kelly, the group expands to a raucous foursome for live purposes.  You might find them in the same line as The Strange Boys, though I’ll definitely have to give it to this group for their vocal qualities over our Austin compatriots.  If you want to get a head start on the band, you will be happy to know that they currently have three 7 inches up for grabs, all of which feature the band’s traditional American garage sound.  After seeing them open for The Dutchess and the Duke earlier this year, I found that they are the sort of band you can get behind every single night.  Fergus and Geronimo have several shows during SXSW, one being at the Woodsist showcase, so be sure to catch hold of them now, as they’ll be a hot ticket for the rest of the year.

New Tunes from The Art Museums

artIt’s that time of year when bands clamor to build a name for themselves in hopes of being your favorite band in 2010.  Recent Woodsist signees, The Art Museums,  are on that list, hoping to win you over when they release their album Rough Frame in early 2010.  For now though, they’ve got a neat little number to pique your interest, so take a listen and get excited.

New Tunes from Fresh & Onlys

freshFresh & Onlys have already released one album this year, and their ready to release more tunes for you on September 15th when Woodsist puts out their Grey-Eyed Girls record. It should be full of brooding rock with that deeply haunting voice that you’ll hear in the song “Invisible Forces,” which we’ll happily toss your way.
