More Great Pop from Little Red

I went with sort of a more rock oriented morning starter for everyone this morning, so I had to redeem myself, or rather, at least offer the other side of my musical tastes.  Little Red‘s new album, Midnight Remember, has been playing around my office fairly frequently, and you can now get your hands on it!  But, in case you don’t have the time today, here’s another great track to warm your soul.  It’s just a great melodic ballad with quietly strummed guitar being featured before the song itself begins to meander further into the spectrum of catchy pop tunes.  One listen to this song and you’ll surely find yourself humming along, hoping to have a day as promising as this young act.

New Tunes from Forest Fire

Man, it’s been a really good day for quirky pop numbers all over the Internets.  This sprawling little number from New York’s Forest Fire is just another one of those.  The band have recently signed to Fat Cat, who will be releasing their newest album, Staring at the X, on October 18th.  If you listen closely, I swear you’ll hear the voice of Devandra Banhart, though the music sounds nothing at all like that.  Light orchestrated touches come in and out, and carefully echoed guitar chords clang in the background.  Whatever their formula is for songwriting, I’m absolutely loving it today.

Obligatory Girls Post

I say this is obligatory, as I’m sure that everyone in the world has this track on play right now, or at least gave it a listen today at some point. We’d be remiss if we didn’t post it, as Girls were one of our favorite bands, or are rather.  The last time they offered up a 6 minute song (Hellhole Ratrace) it played non-stop.  Here, on “Vomit” they’ve clearly slowed things down, but the delivery of the vocal sounds remarkably similar to early works.  When the song bursts, you get a glimpse at the hard work the band’s done, crafting a much fuller sound, even with a bit of a sharp edge.  Surely we can expect great things when their new album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, hits on September 13th via True Panther.

More New Music from Boston Spaceships

Just last week we gave you an opportunity to give a listen to “Christmas Girl,” the first release from the upcoming Boston Spaceships album, Let It Beard.  In true Pollard fashion, he already has another song for you folks to enjoy, and again, it’s just a great track.  Over the years he’s been able to win us over, though most will admit he’s tossed out a few misses here and there.  After listening to Let It Beard all week, I can tell you that this is not going to be the case this go round; it’s a solid record through and through, full of gem after gem. You can get yourself a copy on August 2nd.

New Single from Cut Off Your Hands

When news came a few weeks back that Cut Off Your Hands were going to have a new record, I expected sort of angular post-rock, like their debut.  But, the more I listen Hollow Out, which hits stores on August 16th via Frenchkiss, the more I realize I couldn’t be further from the truth of it.  There’s definitely a Brit-pop feel to this latest single, letting you know that the band’s willing to explore all sorts of territory on this latest effort.  And, if you’re into what you’re hearing, then be sure to go grab their 2008 Happy As Can Be EP for free right HERE.

New Tune from Cloud Control

We’ve been huge supporters of Australia’s Cloud Control, so much so that we had the group play our SXSW Party this year.  Lucky for us, the band are gearing up for a brief trip to the States this summer while they focus their work on their upcoming debut, rumored to be out later this year.  It’s tracks like this new one, with it’s amped up folk tendencies that really got us hooked on the group, giving them a place in the purgatory of indie realms, dwelling somewhere between pop gems and folk revisionists.  You give us stomping percussion, clear guitars and some juxtaposed male/female vocals, and we’ll gladly swoon over anything you toss our way. Thanks again Cloud Control.

New Jam from Thee Oh Sees

One of the groups we’ve really been into over the last few years, which was reinforced by their solid SXSW sets this year is about to release a new record.  Thee Oh Sees are putting out their new album, Castlemania (not to be confused with Castlevania), on In the Red Records on June 14th. Surprisingly, this first listen has a lot less anxious chainsaw guitar, and more of a folky little swagger to it, though I’ll admit that the change of pace and styles is never something these guys seem to steer away from.  All in all, seems like an excellent way to get people excited, as this a pretty solid little number.
