Last Week’s Jams (11.13 – 11.17)

Honestly, not sure what all we’re going to cover this week, as it seems like all the folks have given up hyping new music and records; I reckon its time for those year end lists to really make it out there! But, we did manage to cover a good amount of rock n’ roll last week, so let us hip you to what rips! Personally, I keep spinning the Finnoguns Wake track, which is the new project from Shogun of Royal Headache. That said, there was definitely some cool new stuff dropping from the likes of Flight Mode, Kissing Party and Friko, all of which made our typical coverage. Threw up some Say Sue Me and Rosie Tucker tunes, as a reminder that they’ve been out on the road and I managed to squeeze in both on Thursday of last week! Let it rip!

Friday Album Streams: Wurld Series, Frog, Deary

It’s that weird time of the year when everyone pretends that they stop writing music for a few months so we can browse the list of Best New Artists, or whatever. We do it too, though I’ll probably keep writing about songs if folks keep sending them to me. But, before the year “wraps up” and stuff, here’s a few more new records to listen to today that you’ll hopefully enjoy! Note: I included a few from last week, because last week I ran an Austin-centric streams post, so booyah!

Last Week’s Jams (10.2 – 10.6)

Kind of a hectic week on my end over here, with RayRay being out of town, B.Gray getting ready to fest, and well, the usual life goes on. Managed to squeeze in a couple of phenomenal shows, so that’s a bonus, catching both Lewsberg and the Walkmen. Tons of fun songs hit last week, though admittedly, it seemed a bit thin in comparison to weeks gone by. Still, Onyon dropped fresh tunes, and Lower Plenty finally dropped their marvelous new No Poets LP. Loved that English Teacher bop, so chose it to start off the playlist. Unfortunately, one of my favorite tunes was that new Lightheaded, but it wasn’t streaming yet, so be sure to check in with Slumberland Records on that note. Monday is here. So is the music.

Steven Adams Shares Head Keeps Rolling

Not sure why I expected anything less, but these new Steven Adams tunes continue to impress me; I can’t get enough of the latest single. Honestly, it feels like what you’d get if you took Tom Petty and turned him to an indie rock nerd. The song’s got the huge hooks and insatiable quality that will have even the coolest kids humming under their breath, but under Steven’s eye, this song’s got just enough swagger and hipness to keep it working just left of center. There’s just something so wonderfully timeless in every note kicked out of my speaker right now. Adams will release Drops on November 10th via Fika Recordings.

Last Week’s Jams – (9.11 – 9.15)

It seems weird to say, but last week was the first time in a long time where I was able to find every song we covered on all the DSPs! Does this mean I’ve gone mainstream? Anyways, we had a few premieres running from the likes of Class and Alijca-Pop, so be sure to check those jams out.. And, as per usual, dipped our toes in the Austin pond, with new stuff from Holy Wire and the stream of Will Johnson‘s new LP. Oh, and we made sure we had as much Oceanic coverage as possible, throwing our weight behind Soft Covers, Native Cats, The Small Intestines and Exek! Give a listen to the singles below!

Steven Adams Shares Moderation

Steven Adams totally has me wrapped around his little songwriting finger at the moment. On the first single from Drops, there was this driving earnestness that just livened your listening experience. This go round, that liveliness definitely plays into the song’s delivery, though its spun in a different fashion, with the chorus serving up the boisterousness on a platter, while the verses toy with more of a grooving stutter-step across a crooner’s stage. A little bit of funk, a nice little dose of pop, with just a dash of righteous rock n’ roll…and we’re all sliding into Tuesday like champions. Drops is out on November 10th via Fika Recordings.

Last Week’s Jams (8.21 – 8.25)

There continues to be an unreasonable amount of great music coming out nowadays, and I’m absolutely baffled at how it just never ceases; there’s been nothing but week after week of tunes for me to fawn over. This week’s a little all over the place, with a little bit of rock, a little bit of pop, a little bit of songwriter and back again. Wanted to begin with the great cover of “Rock n’ Roll” by the Feelies, then jump right into some of my favorite tracks of the week. I mean, new Tony Jay and Red Pants make all of us winners. Plus, there’s a new Lewsberg tune floating about, which I definitely have included in other playlists. And, I got back on that review game with a track by track breakdown of Holy Wave’s latest. So spend some time looking back at last week!

Steven Adams Announces Drops

Imagine turning on a record and hearing your favorite parts of modern indiepop sounds fused with the fuzzy pop of greats like Grandaddy…that’s where this new Steven Adams track hit me. There’s moments when it feels playful and coy, like letting you in on this catchy little secret. Then, you get a little plot twist and the song opens up entirely, taking on that natural gallop with guitars running alongside one another as the urgency crests into this really sweet melodic moment from Adams. This is one of those song’s I just couldn’t get enough of, from the moment I pressed play, all the way until the end, it’s just a straight ripper. Steven Adams will be releasing Drops via Fika Recordings on November 10th.

Steven Adams and the French Drops Share Soft Landings

The broad swathe of sound that Steven Adams and the French Drops are releasing has me penciling in the release of Keep It Light as an endearing record destined to be played until I need another copy. We’ve had an upbeat indiepop number, a grittier folk tune, and now we have this folk pop gem. From the bending guitar in the distance to the quiet vocal accompaniment, it seems Steven Adams is breaking out all the stops here; there’s this brilliant moment just before the 1.5 minute mark (also 2.5) that I absolutely love, if you’re looking for my favorite 10 seconds. Keep It Light will be out on August 21st via Fika Recordings.

Steven Adams and the French Drops Share New Single

Having already covered the first single from the forthcoming Steven Adams & the French Drops LP, you better believe I’m circling right back around with the latest single, particularly as this one feels super pertinent right now. Maybe it’s just me, but the song title alone speaks to my last few months on the Internet, though not necessarily with my immediate family. Musically, Adams is still pulling out the steady folk-tinged power pop that works like a snake charmer on my ears; you can’t go wrong adding a subtle piano line anywhere in a tune. Keep It Light is out via Fika Recordings on August 21st.
