Austin Sound Check Feedback

Our friends over at Austin Sound Check have created a mix tape chock full of local acts called Feedback Vol. 1. The Feedback features tracks from Austin acts like Built by Snow, The Band of Heathens, and Full Service among others. Check out the free mp3s from some great Austin bands on the Austin Sound Check Site. Don’t forget to leave some comments on their site if you enjoy the music.

I’m From Barcelona

I’m From Barcelona, creators of our favorite video of the last few years “We’re From Barcelona” off one of the best albums of 2006 Let Me Introduce My Friends. have some new music for you pop geeks out there.  First song “Paper Planes” has a video you can watch on youtube and can also be streamed on the band’s myspace page.  Another song, “Music Killed Me” can be had with a real (or fake) email address on the I’m From Barcelona wesbite.  “Paper Planes” sounds like it could belong on the band’s 2006 release but “Music Killed Me” sees a totally new direction for the Swedes.  Both songs appear on the band’s newest Who Killed Harry Houdini? out Sep. 24th in the UK and Oct. 14th stateside.

More New Kings Of Leon

Kings of Leon have another new song called “Sex on fire” you can check out on the band’s myspace page.  The song will appear on the King’s new album Only by the Night set for release later in September.  The band also has some new tour dates they just posted to their website with a stop at Austin’s own Music Hall on the list. Tickets will go on sale August 15th for the event.  We’ll post ya a reminder again closer to the sale date.

Sigur Ros @ MoMa

I know I know. We post way too much about this band, but this may be the best thing we’ve posted yet!  Sigur Ros recently performed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and The Current website has been kind enough to post the entire live performance on their site. The show took place on Icelandic independence day (June 17th). Live footage of the show looks eerily familiar to the 2007 documentary Hlemmur (arguably one of the best band docs ever made).

Lollapalooza

If you’re like me and can’t really justify spending all that money to fly out to Chicago this weekend, you can catch most of Lollapalooza live on the Lollapalooza website. A lot of the mid-range acts from the festival will also be seen at our little ACL festival later in September. Maybe that will make your schedule planning a bit easier? I suggest tuning in first thing tomorrow at 12:15 for the Holy F*ck set. C3 also somehow landed Radiohead AND Rage Against the Machine as headliners but couldn’t get either for ACL. I suggest checking those two out. See the schedule for the event on the festival website.  You can also download an mp3 from each artist playing this weekend on a Lollapalooza mix created on Stereogum.

Chris Cornell & Timbaland

No, the title of this post is not a typo.  Chris Cornell is actually teaming up with Timbaland for his new solo album Scream due out sometime this September.  Even better, you can hear 5 new songs off the album over on the planet radio website.  I have always been a fan of Soundgarden and most of Audioslave’s material but I’m not sure I’ll be on board for this venture.  It’s…. interesting to say the least.  Let’s get some good comments on this one.
