If you’re searching for modern country, you might not think to gravitate towards Sacramento, California, yet that’s what makes spending time with this new tune from Noelle & the Deserters so perfect: it feels like a home on a Texas porch just as much as it feels like California sunshine. You should feel drawn to the sliding guitar lines and the light strums that accompany singer Noelle Fiore’s sparkling vocals; those pipes filter in the sunshine through a Western swinging background. Lyrically, Fiore details the difficulty of finding ones’ self stuck in a cycle, yet putting your head down and getting on with it in hopes of finding your way. Anna Hillburg Announces Tired Girls

It’s a shame that we always pigeonhole San Francisco as a sort of land of dreary fog, particularly when you listen to the music we’ve covered the last few days, like this Anna Hillburg tune. Something in this track provides me with this majestic wistfulness; it’s dripping with nostalgia, but by incorporating the pianos and trumpet throughout, the tune pushes you towards the sun’s rays as they break through clouds. Hillburg’s definitely got her singing pipes down too, moving in between piano lines and that constant buzz of the cymbals tapping in your ear; I love the vocal control, fluttering between short accentuated notes and stretched out belters. Tired Girls, the new LP, is out on October 13th via Speakeasy Studios SF.

The Lost Days Share Gonna Have to Tell You

I felt like you deserved a treat in the middle of your week, so I opted for this nice little track from the Lost Days, which is the project of Sarah Rose Janko and Tony Molina. Earlier this year, the duo dropped their stellar album In the Store via Speakeasy Studios SF, and now we’ve got the video treatment for “Gonna Have to Tell You.” In this track, you can hear how Sarah is the perfect accompaniment for Tony Molina; his songwriting doesn’t seems perfectly suited for her, and if I’m honest, they seem to share some tonal similarities…so it’s all the more charming. I wonder how many secret hit songs Tony Molina has locked up in his home. Really, I do! Now that he’s been working with Sarah Rose Janko on the Lost Days project, there just seems to be an extra layer of musical enlightenment added to Tony’s guitar playing; Janko has this sparkling dreaminess that feels like a sense of longing and comfort all wrapped into one. The song’s video captures both an homage to Ringo (some guy from the Beatles) and the city of San Francisco’s Toxic Beach. If I had a complaint, it’s that I could spend another couple minutes listening to these two spin their yarns. The Lost Days will release In the Store via Speakeasy Studios SF on March 17th.
