Body Type Release B-Side

bodytypeYou’re probably sitting around with a sense of melancholy, and with that, tunes often help heal, however superficial that is. This new single from Body Type is currently helping me here…there’s a vulnerability in the vocal performance accompanied by a brooding, yet beautiful, progression. As the song unfolds, you’re captured, either by the uplifting monosyllabic chants from behind, or by the general sense of calm that washes over you. The band release their new Ludlow/264 7″ via Our Golden Friend this month; you can grab it over HERE.

Feel the Tangible Excitement! IndiePop!

tangibleThis word doesn’t get thrown around so much in relation to Tangible Excitement, but my record collection is definitely calling these guys a supergroup: 1/4 Summer Cats, 1/4 Boyracer and 1/2 Lucksmiths. Need I say more? Indiepop fans are already clamoring to get their hands on this ridiculously fun release. I like the upbeat jam, “Puzzle Pieces;” it’s the best jangling pop tune you might not have heard yet…feel that groove. For those of you not familiar with the participating acts, just spend about 12 minutes indulging in the delightful pop waiting at the click of a button. Then, be a good human, and go grab the 7″ from Emotional Response!

Did Someone Say Peaness?

peanessThere are some really reliable record labels that probably don’t get the adoration or attention they deserve, but with labels like Kingfisher Bluez, I always go back to see what they’re working on. The label recently put up some great tunes on their bandcamp…one of which comes from Peaness. The label is releasing a 7″, and the tunes they’ve got up are catchy as anything you’ll likely hear today…it sort of reminds me of Standard Fare, using sharp guitar cuts and a great female frontiedvocal. You’ll be able to grab your own before the 7″ is released at the end of July.

ATX Spotlight: Sailor Poon 7″ Release (+Show)

sailorpoonHopefully you caught wind of Sailor Poon on the Slack Capital Compilation we released earlier this year, or at least heard about the ladies continuous stomping of the Austin scene. Today the ladies continue their pummeling blend of rock n’ roll with the release of their new Yeast Pigeon 7″…a show at the Museum of Human Achievement kicks off tonight to celebrate with Yes Ma’am Brass Band, Popper Burns and DJ King Khan. I love how these ladies seem to be having a blast, all the time, whether recorded or live; you want to be part of it, you need to be part of it. So join in the fun and listen to their new 7″ below.

Classic Pop from Red Sleeping Beauty

redsleepingAfter a long hiatus, Red Sleeping Beauty has picked things up over the last few years, culminating in the latest 7″ for Shelflife/Labrador. It’s just a careful wash of electronic joy, the sort that one millions of hearts on late 80s radio. Male and female vocals trade places over synthesized grooves, erupting in a soaring Spanish chorus laden with guitar working low in the mix. I suggest you go get your hands on this release before it’s too late to feel like you’ve fallen in love all over again; it’s available now!

Listen to Lost Film

lostfilmLost Film is part of the rolling machine that is The Native Sound. The label’s got some good stuff coming out lately, and this is just another one of those that I think will get at you. You’ll find that the majority of the song can easily fall under the category of casual pop, relaxed and steady, working around central melodies. But, there are a few moments when the guitars swell into your ears, then settling back into it’s steady brood. This track will appear on a brand new 7″ that was recorded at Converse Rubber Tracks in Boston; it’sup for pre-order HERE.

Big Bill 7″ Stream + Release Party (2.28)

billyThere’s been great coverage this week for Austin’s Big Bill…local blog Ovrld and national mag, The Big Takeover added to the band’s recent press run. It’s deserved on so many levels, not only just musically, but in its representation of what truly makes Austin “weird.” Our label is releasing the 7″ today, and it will come with a special prize for those of you that order it HERE (it’s like a musical Cracker Jacks!), but you should also come out to End of an Ear on Sunday evening before the Oscars to enjoy a great set celebrating the band’s release. They’ll go on at 5 PM, and we’ll have the 7″ on hand for you to grab. Trust me, this is going to be a great year for all things Bill…so get a head start with this 7″.

Dance Hit from High Functioning Flesh

humanThe last few months I’ve definitely found myself gravitating towards some electronic tunes. Sometimes they’re of the experimental sort, and other times they’re like this new track from High Functioning Flesh, getting me ready for bedroom dancing. The vocals here are definitely dark, almost sterile, but it’s perfectly matched by the rhythmic vibe being let go with the electronic work. It’s a feeling the band are just beginning to explore within their own musical confines, which will hopefully play out on the duo’s new Human Remains 7″; you’ll be able to grab it from Dais Records on February 26th.

Here Comes Big Bill w/ a Brand New 7″

12525445_934355893285127_1640897892190808803_oLast week the ATH Records label was fortunate enough to get a lot of love for our newest release from Big Billover at Impose (you can read the article HERE). There was a discussion on taking on modern gender roles, as well as the band’s penchant for making art/music on their own terms, no matter the cost. Still, it’s important to give the song more love, especially considering it’s a fine piece of punk rock, bred on the history of our fair city and it’s changing landscape. The guitar shuffles perfectly as the cymbals crash in your ear, and Eric Bill delivers his vocals in his distinctive style. We’ll be celebrating the release of the 7″ at End of an Ear on February 28th.

You can also order it HERE if you’re not fortunate enough to live within traveling distance to the local record shop!

Brand New Track from Boys Forever

12487192_1667874550150876_9121168534019131929_oI think there’s a bunch of you out there, or maybe like five, lamenting the wait for new music from Veronica Falls, so while we hang out on that one, let’s rejoice that Patrick is going strong with his new project, Boys Forever. It’s steady bouncing indiepop, including a nice little solo in the middle of the tune that hints at some of Patrick’s other work. This track will be included on a brand new 7″ coming on the brand new label, Amour Foo. Looks like bother are something we should keep our eyes on as the year begins to unfold.
