Beautiful and Haunting Video from Marlon Williams

This may be yesterday’s news, but the song is too perfect not to share. Marlon Williams has a new album coming out on Dead Oceans, and he’s shared a new video for the lead single, “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore” which features vocals from Aldous Harding. Just when you thought that Williams’ vocals couldn’t get any more soulful and moving, you add that extra level of Aldous Harding to the top and you get something so beautiful and perfect that you’ll want to drown in the sound all day. Simple, yet sweeping, the track puts the vocals at the center, letting them creep over you like fog. Take a peek at the video below and then get excited forMake Way For Love, which will be out February 16 of next year.

HOLY Announces All These Words Are Yours

Epic pop songs just don’t seem to be in fashion anymore, which I find a shame. Luckily, HOLY doesn’t seem to care about modern fads, as demonstrated by the lead single from the forthcoming album, All These Words Are Yours. In the opening ten seconds, a staggering bit of piano/synth has you searching for your balance; it’s slowly steadied by a loud guitar ring, accompanying strings and the voice of Hannes Ferm. Its 45 seconds of calming pop, all before the song erupts into this heavenly mid section that’s faintly reminiscent of J Spaceman’s work. Then moving along, just after the 3 minute mark, you’ll encounter a slight respite, almost an angelic chorale, but while important in the grand scheme of things, it’s brief. All of it is made more interesting when you find out Hannes played every note within the new LP. If you like to celebrate grandiose pop music, then consider picking up the record on January 26th via PNKSLM.

New Video From Michael Rault

It’s been a minute since Michael Rault released his last album, Living Daylight back in 2015, but now he’s back andwith Wick Records to release new music. He’s just shared a new video for his track, “Sleep With Me” that’s a bouncy half americana half psych jam you’ll be remiss if you don’t check out. The guitars are beyond fuzzy and cut through the jazzy drum beat along with the high pitched vocals. Take a listen below and look out for a new LP from Michael Rault coming to you soon.

New Music from Alex Rose

Former Austin resident Alex Rose is quickly making a name for herself out in LA, but if you look at production duties/recording for her album Arcadian Pages, seems like she’s never left; the album was produced by Anni Rossi and Dan Duszynski (who has worked with ATH faves Julia Lucille and Jess Williamson). Whether Dan and Rossi’s influence or not, there’s a huge space between the vocals and the instrumentation; both pieces seemingly swell together in the song’s middle half, evaporating via discordant strings and careful layering. The textural work leaves this huge canvas, and Rose paints it perfectly with her performance. Her album drops tomorrow, with cassette versions available HERE.

Meet PR Newman

Spencer Garland’s been tinkering around the Austin music scene for some time now, but he seems to finally have found his groove with his new project PR Newman. The song definitely harkens to a bit of a folk/Americana feel, though Spencer seems willing to stretch that as near to the border of pop songwriting as possible. I love the resounding idea in the lyric “happy,” especially when juxtaposed with preceding ideas…you can follow along in the lyrical video below. It also never hurts to have a guest appearance from the Bond Twins. Welcome to your new favorite Austin act!

Have Some Fun With Strange Names

Drudging my way through an insane week leaves me in need of some upbeat music I can dance and sing along to. If you are in the need of the same, look no further than this delightful new track “Into Me” from NYC via Minneapolis based band Strange Names. Seriously, this thing is a fun piece of dance inducing beats with elements of electronica, disco and of course pop. I dare you need to stand up and move to the beat. Double dare.

Strange Names will release a new album of tunes sometime in 2018.

New Music from The Cabin Fever

This might not be what The Cabin Fever want to hear, but there latest song exhibits some heyday Jade Tree Records vibes. For me, that’s a great thing, as it’s both nostalgic and overlooked. There’s a fragility in the vocal delivery, curating that emotional feel. But more importantly, the song also works as a collection of moments; it begins with a quiet opening, moves to a more developed, emphatic middle, and takes a careful direction change that fades into the ending. The group are set to release their new Exercise the Demon EP in January of next year, but take a small dosage by streaming this number below.

Check This Video from Xenoula

The talk of late has been the return of Fever Ray, and yeah, nice to have her back, but the album was just okay, in my mind. Instead, I’m enjoying the world being crafted by Xenoula. This video does seem to share a slight resemblance to the aforementioned act, though I feel as if the pop-centric vibe that permeates the song further its appeal. The vocals sound more crisp, and with fewer studio touches; the little whispers do add a bit of oddity/haunt to the tune. Xenuola will be releasing her self-titled album on November 24th, so indulge in this number while you wait!

Hear the New Single from I Was a King

Just a few weeks ago I dropped the B-Side to the latest single from I Was a King, and now we’re here to tell you to check out the A-Side. While the band’s penchant for power-pop definitely shines through, particularly with Frode’s vocal delivery…there are hints at a slightly heavier vibe. Their beautifully distorted chords seem just a step lower, deeper, bringing in almost a brooding feel to the melodic sound; it sort of matches the opening moments of the “Run.” No one does it better in my opinion than this band, so I’m looking forward to their completed LP, which is said to drop next year!

Montero Announces Performer

Montero has just announced his next album, Performer, for Chapter Music…so you know we’re already going to commit to enjoying it. Luckily, the song’s pretty special, living in the world where dream pop and psychedelia mingle at the bar. There’s even a funkiness to the opening moments, setting Ben Montero’s work apart from many of his Aussie peers. He even created the animated video below, and it’s difficult to tell which came first, the video or the song; they seem to match so well, it’s hard not to see them as one whole. The record drops on February 2nd of next year, so keep your eyes peeled!
