Le Volume Courbe are a London based band with French influence that make music that’s kind of difficult to describe, as you’ll soon discover with “The House,” if you hadn’t already discovered that in the long time that this band’s been around. This track is a mix of a lot of different kinds of music; you have the percussion that just won’t quit, the straight jangly indie pop in the guitars, the delicate orchestration of the strings, the bursts of synthesizer all the way through. These all combine with Charlotte Marionneau’s vocals to create a subtly powerful jam that will have you dancing with this song on repeat. Le Volume Courbe release this single physically next week, which you can preorder here.

Lush Electro-Pop from OOFJ

ringthealarmI’m going to always pronounce OOFJ as Uf-J! I think it adds a bit of emphasis to their sound, which may or may not always be needed.  For instance, on their latest single, the lush arrangements that move through the song’s first few moments are pretty restrained, pulled back as if awaiting the electronic pulse that will soon enter.  It’s like a combination of movie soundtrack bombast butting heads against dance floor sensibilities; not a bad way to approach things in my opinion. They’ll be releasing their new album, Acute Feast, via Ring the Alarm on April 21st.

Orange Cassettes Go Back to 2002

oranjeOkay, so maybe they don’t go all the way back there, but seeing as the members of Orange Cassettes are from Elefant and Radio 4, that seems like a solid time for the bands to really be making a wave.  But, with that out there, the duo has comprised some music that moves forward while still wearing the patches of the not so distant past. The tune below is definitely begging to get a nice club remix, though I miss the brash quality that Radio 4 seemed to bring to the table.  The single is being released digitally by Ring the Alarm, which is calling all parities to action…seems like that action here is to just shake it.
