Radical Dads Kick Ass

radical-dadsRadical Dads kick some major ass with their music.  They create a style that’s full of rockin’ vibes devoid of any fancy electronics or beep boops.  I can always dig that and I’m definitely into their latest single called “In the Water”.  As we’ve come to expect from the band, the tune brings a ton of great energy with a few spastic moments here and there to keep things interesting.

Radical Dads have a new EP entitled Cassette Brain due out October 7th on Old Flame Records.

New Music from Trans Upper Egypt

transLocal Austin label Monofonus Press is always pretty reliable when it comes to releasing new tunes, and their latest signing is pretty spot on.  The band is a Roman act by the name of Trans Upper Egypt, and they’ve built quite a name for themselves working DIY style overseas.  You’ll hear a huge buzz coating the track, supported by some great drum work that often seems about to run right off the rails.  Guitars will screech and swirl from the sides, helping to wrap up the vocals in a nice little cocoon of cacophony.  Look for their self-titled album on November 4th.

Softened Tune from Deptford Goth

dgFeeling sort of schizophrenic today, musically speaking, so why not add this melancholy tune from Deptford Goth to your listening mix?  The song features a soft piano backbone with a faint hint of percussion to touch things up.  There’s some distant backing shouts/chants in the background, though  Daniel’s voice is really what sucks you into this track.  I’m a sucker for a great bit of traditional pop songwriting, and this is right up that alley.  Keep your ears peeled for the November 4th release of his album, Songs.

Mesmerizing Number From Goodman

a2756225044_10Brooklyn based Goodman put out a majorly overlooked LP in February called Isn’t it Sad.  Today we’re pumped to be sharing with you the first new material since that release in the form of this brand new single “I Would Die”.  I’ll be honest here, I’m loving this track today and have likely listened to it 5 times in the last few hours.  It’s such a simple song that can seemingly evoke a multitude of emotions in the subtle delivery.  Melt.

Dream Pop from Lazyeyes

lazeIt’s always nice when a track comes your way that you get excited about, despite knowing little to nothing about the band.  It only took me a few seconds to sink my teeth into Lazyeyes, which is entirely due to the straight-ahead force the song employs from the opening moment.  That sound is in start contrast to the pop underbelly you’ll find while listening to this track; it’s nothing out of the ordinary, but you can’t keep a good song down.  Look for the band’s self-titled EP to fall into your hands later on in the calendar year.

More New Music from Rural Alberta Advantage

runnersI’ve admitted to my adoration for Rural Alberta Advantage, but I was slightly skeptical with their last single, but it seems like this new one has things right back on track.  There’s just something about the vocals that always stick with me; it’s as if they don’t quite fit the music, yet they clearly fit perfectly into the band’s well-crafted sound.  It sounds like country-stomping indie rock, and not the Americana sort, but somewhere more developed, somewhere less-traveled perhaps.  I look forward to the group’s new effort, Mended with Gold, which comes out on September 30th via Saddle Creek Records.

Who On Earth Is Chris Smith?!?!?

chrisUnless you live in Australia, the odds are you probably haven’t heard of Chris Smith up until now.  Don’t feel alone, I was in exactly the same boat until 24 hours ago, when I found this tune, and now I’m absolutely hooked.  The music ambled along from the moment I pressed play, and I was drawn into the tune; I love the sound of the guitar work throughout the entirety of the track.  But, Smith’s vocals, straining from the background further pulled me under, convincing me this was something I couldn’t ignore…and now neither can you. This tune will be featured on his LP, Bad Orchestra, which has a slated release date of October 14th via Hermit Hut.

Busy Thursday Night in Austin

Something Dance-y from Avid Dancer

AVIDThe press release on this tune read as a melding of Hot Chip and The Dandy Warhols. That was definitely enough to peak my interest in regards to Avid Dancer.  This song doesn’t have the immediacy of a HC bounding hook, but I can definitely hear that cool swoon in the bits of vocals. There’s a steadier pacing too, at least until you move your way into the beat-y chorus.  I like the infectious attitude, but I also appreciate the restraint; it means longevity in my listening rotation. This tune is the title track from the I Want To See you Dance EP, which comes out on October 21st.

Maturity in Sound from FF

fffWhen I first posted about “Caught in a Dream” the first tune from FF that I heard, I was really taken aback. It had this youthful rock approach, something one might consider a fuck it all approach.  But, this time around, the band is showing some diversity, choosing to hold back on the pace, allowing for a bit more delicacy in their playing.  This approach is quite different, though I can see how it would sit right alongside their earlier tune in an album setting.  Luckily for us, we’ll get to hear just that on their album, Lord; it’s being released by Couple Skate Records on October 21st.
