Andre Obin Heads Out On Tour

Andre ObinAndre Obin is hitting the road. To celebrate, he gives you a nice little piece of bliss to bliss out to and you can download it. …free. Big fan of his work right now. While there is continuity, he changes style from track to track. The tones carry over, vocals, beats and weight vary, but there is always a nice bit of craftsmanship.

Austin will unfortunately not be on the list of cities visited, but those of you not in the Bat City, click that hyperlink thingie at the start of the text to get an eyeball on dates. I caught a set during SxSW a few years back; he was touring with a band in tow, believe that will be true again this time around.

Click that little down arrow box. Do it.

Have A Nice Weekend

FALDFuck Art, Let’s Dance!

Candidates for best band name in recent years.

Little dance jam here for you to kick of your weekend. I was checking out a Maison Kitsune Trip Mode mix by Jerry Bouthier and this was the second track in, caught my ear, so here you go.

…and be sure to listen to that mix. Curated. Tasty.

Austin Spotlight: Christopher Norman

christophernormanA smoky and smooth, crooner-like vocal tone graces this track from Austin’s Christoher Norman.

Previously just turning the knobs, Mr. Norman built this warm electronically backboned gem to introduce himself to our radar. If you think want to bail in the first few seconds, don’t. The song builds in warmth and weight graced by the vocals to the break with a wonderful instrumental out. The second listen is even better.

The album PROCESS is due at the end of the month. Interested.

Have A Nice Weekend

The Juan MacleanLadies and Gentlemen, you may dance.

The Juan Maclean has been known to elicit party. DFA has this latest track up for your ears and feets. Use it. Add it to your Soundcloud mix for the weekend. This track again features Nancy Whang on vocals and I think it is John’s best stuff since “The Simple Life”. Big DFA-style beat, somewhat brooding at times, but always ready to break out.

Turn it up, enjoy the three day weekend if you dare.

Show Preview: Bear In Heaven @ The Parish (8/28)

Bear In Heaven

Date: TONIGHT!
Location:   The Parish
Doors: 8:00 PM
Tickets: $16

Yes, there are other shows going on tonight. I am most excited about this Bear In Heaven show at The Parish tonight. Not just because I love the new tracks from BiH, but the opening acts are real head turners.

Since this show hit my radar, I have been a little obsessed with Weeknight. Dark, smoky, synth-heavy and moody – some tracks have southern rock cadence to the vocal, perhaps a hit a gospel. Andy Simmons and Holly MacGibbon spend most of their time harmonizing. It isn’t give and take, it is give and give. Beautiful flourishes, simple constructs enhanced by clever waveforms. Heavy guitar riffs complete the formula and lends gothy noise.

I last saw Young Magic with Purity Ring. I expect more of the same gazy-poppy goodness, but the new tracks are fuller, more complex if you ask me.

And finally, we have our headliners. Dear jeebus, I love the track “Autumn”. This is going to be one helluva show. I made you a playlist.

Smooth Synthy Pop from Slow Magic

Slow MagicAdmittedly, the IT Dept. hasn’t been on the scene lately, but it is about time we in-sourced this noise and get some delicious bleeps into your earholes.

Slow Magic is building a hefty rep around these parts with beauty’s like this slow builder that is filled with texture and replicated organics posted a few months back. The band is back again with another streamable slice of synth goodness with emphasis on the synth this time. The track, “Waited 4 U”, has one lyric, take a guess. It is in the mid-song crescendo that will hopefully include a key-tar solo in the live setting. *cough* holy mountain 9/17 *cough*

How To Run Away is out Sept. 9th on Downtown Records. I recommend you get it.

Have a Nice Weekend

theglass-thumbnailChew on this smooth piece of electro bliss.

I have no idea how I have lived with out knowing this existed. But I know now, so I will share it with you.

The Glass is Dominique Keegan and Glen Brady, the latter sports the aka DJ Wool. Both have stakes in different labels on different sides of the Atlantic, labels that after listening to the latest release I will have to follow, Plant Music and We Collect Enemies, respectively.

I am highlighting a slower song on the record At Swim Two Birds that can be streamed in it’s entirety on their Soundcloud.

Show Review: Cut Copy @ Stubb’s (6/21)

Cut CopySometimes you have to pay the toll. The heat was taking the toll. Stubb’s is probably just a little too small to host Cut Copy these days. The band is stuck in popularity in the gap that Austin can’t quite handle and I doubt Cedar Park Center would be a popular destination for an indie-pop electro Aussie dance party.

Damn. It was hot. We sweat, we dance, we sweat more. We wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Click through for a couple more thoughts and plenty of pics.

Cape Lion Hits The Sweet Spot

Cape LionCape Lion proves to me that I should move the Sweden and start Stockholm Town Hall.

Nathan was a little worried this was too poppy. Bah, no such thing as too poppy, but it can’t suck. I like this track from a pending EP quite a bit. It has the big wave synth with soaring riffs and an M83-at-their-best feeling while having a pleasant pop sensibility. I see this as the soundtrack to a drive home. Get the timing right, pull into the driveway just as the last notes fade out…

I have the embed to stream right here, but head past the break for a surprisingly awesome live video they shot in an attic above their recording space.
