Slick Jam From Weeknight

Prior to the writing of this post I had never heard the name of Brooklyn based band Weeknight. Now after hearing this new single “Settle Down”, I plan to become more acquainted with the band and delve into some back catalogue material. This one blends some nice elements of new wave with some entrancing synths and deep vocals. It’s fitting my mood and the weather outside perfectly at the moment.

Weeknight will release new album DEAD BEAT CREEP on February 1st via Dead Stare Records.

Fun New Single From Jason Matu

As many of us head back to work full time for the first time in awhile, it’s important to find some music to uplift your spirit and keep you focused. My new friend Mr. Jason Matu out of Brooklyn, NY has just the thing for you with his new single “I Don’t Wanna Do It”. His sound reminds me distinctly of a guy like Damien Jurado if he wrote more ironic/funny songs like David Bazan. Those are of course two artists I love so naturally this track is tailor made for me and I hope you enjoy it as well.

Stream The New EP From Harms

Harms is the solo project from Brooklyn based songwriter Jake Harms who previously spent a majority of his time in indie band What Moon Things. To be honest, I am not super familiar with Jake’s work in his primary band, though my extreme love of his new solo EP will likely turn me on to all his work. The new EP, entitled Aquarium, is a loaded 6 song short player with highly emotional vocals and Gothic pop themes. In particular, lead single “Pop Song” is definitely one of my favorites of the year and has already reached 10 plays on my iTunes. Something about the unique and totally transparent songwriting, paired with the slick beats, has me putting this on the “highly recommended” list.

Aquarium is out now on Good Eye Records.

Straight Rock From Washer

If you hit play below and begin reading these words, you will likely finish the song before you finish reading the post. Yes this new singled called “Super Pop” from Brooklyn based duo Washer is a short and sweet rock n roll song urging you to turn up the volume. It’s a little old school garage rocker with some nice elements of an updated rock sound to give it a solid edge. I’ve already played it three time while writing this post.

Washer is releasing a new split 7″ EP with Bethlehem Steel due out on November 30th via Exploding in Sound Records.

Have A Rocking Monday With Native Sun

It’s a balmy and grey day here in Austin and I think we could all use a little rock n roll to put a bit of perk in our steps. Bringing the jam this morning is Brooklyn based outfit Native Sun and this awesome new song “Big Succ (ess)”. It’s a raucous taste of rock music full of loud guitars and a head banging rhythm section. This song might just get me through this slow ass day.

Native Sun will release new EP Always Different, Always the Same on November 9th via Papercup Music.

Yet Another Single From Hypoluxo

Since we’ve already posted two singles from the upcoming Hypoluxo album, I figured we would be missing out if we didn’t also post the third and final single. I’m not sure what else we can say about this band that can’t be said with a quick listen to this new joint “Trust Fall”. The band is dreamy and sort of new wave with deep vocals which might just put you in a trance. These guys are making some remarkable music right now.

Hypoluxo will release Running on a Fence on September 21st via Broken Circles.

Throwback Rock From Baked

Ah yes, the city of Brooklyn. That glorious New York City Borough will many a musical dream has come true. Continuing this dream of rock star fame is fuzz rock band Baked and their new track “Hope You’re Happy”. It has a nice throwback, almost alt-rock sound to it with some nice, slacker style lead female vocals. Welcome to the game.

Baked will release new EP ll on August 24th via Exploding in Sound Records. Pre-order now.

Welcome Back Lazyeyes

Man it’s been a bit since we’ve heard anything from the Brooklyn based, ATH favorite band Lazyeyes. As usual, I say things like that to explain my excitement for the band when I’m sent some new music after a small hiatus. So join in my excitement will you and check out this sweet new song “Echoes” from our old friends in Lazyeyes. The song blends a really great shoegaze/dream pop sound with a very nice dose of new wave to keep things interesting. This is one of the better songs I’ve heard this month. No doubt.

Lazyeyes will release Echoes on June 15th via Egghunt Records.

New Single & Video From Good Looking Friends

Ah yes, couldn’t we all agree that 4 day weeks followed by 3 day weekends should be the social norm? As you struggle with this serious intellectual quandary, I suggest you check out this new track “Front Porch” from Brooklyn based band Good Looking Friends. It reminds me quite a bit of post rock band like Sparta, especially with the gritty and explosive vocals. If nothing else, it should certainly wake you up on this slow moving Monday.

Good Looking Friends will release Settle In, Decay on April 6th via Old Press Records.

Enjoy This New Las Rosas Song

If you’re in the mood for some feel good rock music, I’d suggest you check out this new track called “Christa” from Brooklyn based Las Rosas. It’s pretty straightforward indie rock with some great sounding guitars and a super tight mix. The band might be confused for early era Phoenix or even a little bit more of a guitar driven act like The Vaccines. Call it what you will, I dig it.

This track is currently available on a fancy pink 7″vinyl version you can buy now via Greenway Records. It will also appear as the lead single to the band’s new album entitled Shadow By Your Side due out May 11th.
