Location Flamingo Cantina
Doors 900p

How can you not want to go see the 73 year old dub-reggae master get his groove on at Flamingo Cantina? Let’s face it, if you like reggae, and I do, you need to get stepping to see Lee Scratch Perry. Dr. Dubbist will also be in attendance. Perry produced the following song, which is one of my all time faves, so if you love it, see you Tuesday night.

  • Lee Perry invented reggae. You would think people from the ‘live music capitol of the world’ would show up for a guy who created the entire genre. Imagine if the inventor of rock n’ roll was coming thru town, or the inventor of C&W and no one showed up. Time to change the slogan. Austin—“If you liked dallas, you’ll love us”.

(he did sell out the show but come on there shoulda been lines around the block.)

  • Let’s see if I can defend my fair city here:

A few problems I notice with this show:
    1. Flamingo Cantina? I agree, Lee Perry is a legend, so why would we have this show at such a small venue? I don’t know the capacity of Flamingo, but I highly doubt it can fit enough people to even have a line around the block.

    2. Myself and most of our staff have day jobs that require an early rise and I know Flamingo starts things super late. I can’t physically go to shows during the week that start and end this late and still make it to work at 7am.

    3. I am willing to guess that the average joe has not a clue who Lee Perry is. Let’s just be honest here… Reggae is not exactly the most popular genre with music fans (including myself) so I wouldn’t be surprised if most people say whhhaaaa? when you mention Lee Scratch Perry

    – So really I blame it on the venue choice and day of the week. Not that Flamingo is a bad venue, but this should have been outside somewhere on the weekend.

    Oh and:
“Dallas is about as much fun as a 24 hour CVS”
    – Eugene Mirman

  • Truly! just what an example! Thats notion! Delightful.. Fantastic …: )
