ACL Spotlight: Blitzen Trapper
These guys made one of our favorite albums of last year which produced one of our favorite songs, so I think it’s obvious that we need to run an ACL spotlight on Blitzen Trapper. Follow the jump to read more about an ATH favorite.
Blitzen Trapper, hailing from new musical hot spot Portland, Oregon, are a band who have been working hard on the indie trail since they began way back in 2000. After little to no buzz around their first two self-released album, the band really started making a name for themselves after the release of their 2007 album Wild Mountain Nation. That one earned them all kinds of accolades from big time critics like Spin, Pitchfork and even a best album tag from Rolling Stone.
Following the moderate success of their ’07 album, Blitzen Trapper signed to major indie label Sub Pop for the release of their stellar 2008 release Furr. That album earned the band bigger citricial acclaim from all major and indie critics (including us of course). I mean honestly, did anyone actually NOT like that album? I doubt it.
So moving forward into 2009, Blitzen Trapper have released another EP of new tunes called Black River Killer and continue to tour the US relentlessly. Some people (who will remain nameless) tend to label this band just another player in the folk revival, but we think they are more than just a trendy band in a currently trendy genre. The folk is there, don’t get me wrong, but the creative mixture of folk with pop is a real thing of beauty.
So stop by the Dell stage at 1:30 on Friday of ACL for a sure to be incredible set by Blitzen Trapper. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Oh and here’s that top song from last year “God and Suicide”.

1:30 on Friday sure is a shitty time slot to try and check them out. I guess at the very least it won’t be crowded at their stage.
