5/7 Shearwater @ The Parish

Last Friday, our incredible photo lady Mary Rehak made her way to The Parish to check out a set by Hospital Ships, Wye Oak, and our very own Shearwater.  Mary claims to have seen these bands more than any living person, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to see them yet again.  After the jump you can check out a short review and some fancy photos from Mary.

There’s a poster on my wall of a girl, holding birds on strings like balloons. The year was 2008, the lineup: Shearwater, Wye Oak, Hospital Ships. These three have been touring together off and on for years, and their friendship is palpable live. Jordan from Hospital Ships is also in Shearwater; on Friday Thor played sax for a song with Wye Oak, while Wye Oak and Hospital Ships wandered on and off stage for additional instrumentation throughout Shearwater’s set. It was like watching a house party made up of only your friends’ bands, where anyone who knew the song could join in.

It was the last show of their tour, to a hometown crowd of friends, family, and – as Jonathan Meiburg thanked from the stage – his fellow birdwatchers, and no-one wanted it to end.

You can see more of Mary’s photos from the night on her flickr page.
