SXSW Interviews: Grouplove
Grouplove are a band that grabbed our attention last year with their debut EP featuring ATH top 50 song “Coloursâ€. Since that time, the band has been busy with a UK tour and the prep work getting ready to release their debut LP later this year. In their hectic schedule, lead singer Christian Zucconi answered some of our questions about his band and their upcoming appearance at SXSW. Follow the jump for Christian’s answers.
Â
ATH: Your currently wrapping up a European tour, what has the response been like over there? Crowds taking to the tunes?
Christian: The tour was really great.  We finally got to play in the UK, something we’ve been really looking forward to since we started as a band because were on board with Grouplove from the start.  And traveling with your best friends for the first time to places like Glasgow, Berlin and Paris was nothing short of amaaazin’. The crowds were really fun and made each show a blast.
ATH: So you guys are touring behind your recently released debut EP, when can fans expect a full on LP? Doing any recording already?
Â
Christian: We finished recording the album back in December and it will be out by the summer. Â Really excited about its release.
ATH: For someone new to the band, what adjectives would you use to describe your sound?
Christian: Well to really get the full picture of what we like to do you have to come out to see a live show.  But for the sake of the now- The music is ALIVE, HONEST, FUN AND CATHARTIC!
ATH: Have you guys come in to SXSW before? If not, how do you plan to survive the craziness of the week?
Â
Christian: Some of us have been in the past, but no, we’ve never been as a UNIT.  We’re going to wear our five person tee-shirt and take up a lot of room on the streets when we walk around.
ATH: What do you look forward to when coming into Austin? Anything you think you have to do or see? Any bands you look forward to seeing during the festival?
Christian: We want to go swimming in that river that everyone goes swimming in.  Dive down and come up to see some old friends. Maybe convince everyone in our camp to stumble into a late night after hours tattoo shop and get the LOVE – – –  Yeah we want to see UME, who are from Austin, and hopefully catch Reptar, who we played with at CMJ.
ATH: Last question. Fans have so many events and bands to choose from during SXSW festival. How would you convince someone to come see your show over another?
ATH: We wish we had the time to convince anyone! Â But just come out it’s a real refreshing show to catch with a lot of energy and passion. Â Come if you want to be MOVED!!!
Thanks again for making the time for this Christian. Â You can check out a live set by Grouplove here:
