SXSW Interviews: Young Empires
To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know much about Canada based Young Empires prior to sending off these interview questions. While doing a little bit of research on the group, I found myself jamming to their brand of new wave/dance music similar to The Rapture or even Cut Copy. It’s now always my thing, but SXSW can definitely bring out the inner dance child inside. After the jump you can find interview questions from Jacob Palahnuk, bass player for the band.
ATH: What is the most challenging thing about being a band during SXSW or another similar festival?
YE: Inflated accommodation prices during festivals can really put touring bands in a tough place and force them to sleep in their vans. It’s kind of shitty.
ATH: What are some tips you would offer newbie bands to survive during SXSW or just in general on tour?
YE: Buy several cases of water. It’s the only way you’ll survive the long drives, hangovers, and heat.
ATH: What music are you guys currently jamming in your tour bus?
YE: We put together a viking rock mix tape for the this tour. Memories of the 90s and grunge always brings out a good laugh.
ATH: Who wins the Euro Cup this summer? It’s okay to tell us you hate soccer.
YE: We don’t follow European football, but our bets are on France.
ATH: Due to licensing, you’ve had to change the band name, or else you get sued! What do you change it to?
YE: Add 1979 to the end of your band name. Keep it simple.
ATH: It’s fairly early in the musical year. What’s in store for your band before the world ends in December?
YE: Find the infinite and prepare for transcendence.
ATH: What’s the best pre-show beverage for the band? Let’s get brand specific! And, what’s the worst free shot we can buy you at SXSW?
YE: Best pre-show would have to be Hennessey XO, no doubt. Worst, warm milk infused with camomile.
ATH: Being out on tour, what’s the one thing you miss about being back at home?
YE: Our beds and girlfriends.
ATH: Best band of all time is….?
YE: Undecided.
