Psych Fest Watch: Bass Drum of Death
Yet another small festival in Austin has grown into something much bigger than we ever thought it would and now Psych Fest is ready to stake a claim with the festival cool kids in town. As we usually tend to do, we’ll be previewing some of the artists playing the festival with a few spotlights on bands we think you should pay attention to. Today we’ll kick things off with festival artist and ATH approved Bass Drum of Death. Follow the jump for more.
Before we go any further, you should know that Bass Drum are currently slated in the 4:30pm slot on Friday so you better get your ass off work early to catch one of the best bands on the lineup. If you’re a frequent reader of this site, you know that we’re big fans of this band and have been giving them our attention since they came across our path a couple of years ago. At that time, the band seemed like little more than an interesting sludgy punk rock band who had some promise behind their tunes, but maybe we’re quite ready for the big stage. After the ATH crew has seen the band live several times, we know that they aren’t just some young dumb punks who don’t know what their doing. No, the brain child of John Barrett clearly has a driving force of talent with some pop tendencies mixed in here and there. If you don’t believe me on the pop part, check out recent single “Shattered Me” elsewhere on our site and get back to me. The amount of potential for this band is higher than a kite and I think they might just be ready to deliver if you give them the chance.
Here’s my personal guarantee that this will be a band you regret not seeing during Psych Fest because you couldn’t get away from work. Take care of business and start the weekend off right.
You’ll see Bass Drum of Death Friday at 4:30 on the Reverberation Stage.
