Simplistic Yet Delightful Folk From Scott Bartenhagen

California’s Scott Bartenhagen just signed to the roster over at New Professor Music of L.A., and in a few short weeks on June 30th, he’ll be releasing an EP called Black Dane. “Beacons,” the song below from that EP, shows the songwriters ability to spin a delightful folksy tune with very little outside of vocals, guitar, and minimal percussion, that is, until the track is almost finished. When the song starts it seems quite mild, and while that is essentially the case, where the heart of this track lies is in the vocal performance of Bartenhagen, whose voice is crisp until he pushes it to its bluesy brink. Though mild, the song takes off at the end and adds in other elements to fully bring it alive. Take a listen.
