Stream the New Album from Knifepleats

I’m an admitted fan of Rose Melberg and her work, so when we heard about a new project, Knife Pleats, I was really excited to hear what it had to offer. As expected, it’s every bit as glorious as we thought, and the full length is now available to pick up on your own. If you’re looking for something that’s just slightly hazy on the sound, but adheres to the delightful side of indiepop, then I think you’re going to want to pick up Hat Bark Beach. It’s available in the US via Lost Sound Tapes and Jigsaw Records.

ATH Spotlight: New Video + Single from Sweet Talk

I’m not going to lie to you; I think the newest album from Sweet Talk is one of my favorite records coming out of Austin this year. It’s a nice blend of power-pop and punk rock, hitting all the wrong notes while leaving you with memorable lines and singalong choruses. The band just released a video for their newest single, “Borrow Your Stuff,” and we’ve got it showing below in hopes you’ll be convinced, like me, that their new effort Double Perfect is something you need in your record collection this year. The LP will be released on October 16th via the esteemed 12XU.

New Keep Shelly In Athens

Every once in a while, a band meets you at the place you want to be. Keep Shelly In Athens has long been and ATH IT Department favorite, but this latest track is all up in my business. Bands, pay attention, this is the wheelhouse for eternal praise from me. Great bass line, lyrics that stand out or disappear depending on how loud you listen to the song and proper synth flourishes and 808 claps. Newer Wave.

The band will be in town just after festival season, Nov. 12th at the Empire Control Room, and I will be there. You can preorder Now I’m Ready here. Coming at eight tracks, it looks to be a concise LP/extended EP that will be a late add to many top records of 2015 lists.

Fresh Power Pop from Coastal Town

I’m going to be honest with you; I know very little about Coastal Town. But, I will fill you in on what information I do have…it’s just not much. The voice should be familiar to ATH followers, as it sounds like it’s Frode from I Was a King at the helm. This leads down a crazy path of tales and such…is I Was a King over or is Coastal Town just a new project? I do know from the IWaK blog that they have spent recent time in studio with Joe Pernice and Robyn Hitchcock…could this be part of it? I don’t really know any of it for sure, but I know the songs are incredible…so as I know more, I’ll keep you posted.
