Scarves Drop Dead Batteries Single

I failed you all yesterday by not posting this Scarves single immediately, but I figured I’d make up for it by offering it this morning! It’s hard not to find remnants of the good days of Death Cab in the verses here, with Niko’s voice approximating that Gibbard-esque whisper; there’s a sharp accent from Nessa Grasing, however, which sets the tone for the song’s more explorative side. Listening to the drum work, it allows the tune to kind of explode into other spaces, moving into more of a kind of rhythmic pulse, allowing the lyrics to really hit home. Despite “knocking on a door of a future that won’t let us in,” the song reminds us to take it into our own hands as we’re reminded that our favorite artists, like Scarves, “are just trying to make something real.” Their new album, Delicate Creatures is out on August 26th via Good Eye Records.
