SXSW Interviews: Snacktime
SXSW officially opens today, though the music doesn’t roll out until the weekend. With that in mind, we’d like to re-introduce you to Snacktime, who’ve taken the time to fill out our little mini-survey in regards to their adventure to our town. I love how they claim to be channeling Prince, Parliament and Sly/Family Stone in their sound, which bodes well for audiences looking to have a great time. Meet the group below!
ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
Were SNACKTIME from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
ATH: Give us a short pitch for your band, describing sound, ambiance or whatever you feel like.
We are like if Prince, Parliament, Dangelo, and Sly and The Family Stone all met up at a hardcore show and decided to turn it into a dance party.
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2025?
We just released a new version of our song TOGETHER with the incredible Devon Gillfillian, it was then featured all over ESPN in the month of February. We have been in the studio and plan to release our next single SUNSHINE (produced by our good friend, Josh Karpeh aka the inimitable Cautious Clay) following SXSW.
ATH: If youve had a chance to check out any of the artists coming into town for the festival – Anyone you are excited about trying to see during the week?
Ginuwine, Big Freedia, The Rumble feat. Joseph Boudreaux Jr., Sly5thAve, PEDAL STEEL NOAH!!!
ATH: Any road survival or SXSW survival tips for newbie bands? What are some must haves to survive the road?
Make sure you drink water and stretch at every possible chance, also make sure to find time to take some personal space for yourself, whether its a personal workout or swimming in the river around the venue, the one thing you cant account for is what it feels like to not have any solo time in your day.
ATH: What concerns do you have as a band or a human or both? In regards to music, the world, reallywhere does your mind tend to wander these days? How do you refocus?
At the end of the day, our north star, and guiding light is making sure were spreading the message of love and unity; if people can walk away from a SNACKTIME show feeling that way, I think wed all feel successful. I hate the fact that the common person has been turned against each other. There are so many forces trying to pull us apart, for their own benefit. If we all take care of one another and pick up for each other, all of those evil people trying to control the world cant hurt us. Musically speaking, the thoughts circulating in my mind are what it means to create something that means something to somebody, while in the same respect being artistically fulfilling to yourself.
