KBP6: Sunday in Photos
Trying to get through the last batch of photos from Kilby Block Party.
I will start by breaking all of the other performers’ hearts by saying Nation of Language was my favorite thing the whole weekend. In fact, I saw them again later Sunday night at their after-party. I don’t want to take anything away from the others, I had an amazing time while dodging the rain. The gallery to follow is comprised of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Real Estate, Tennis, Husbands, Nation of Language, TV on the Radio, Justice and Nation of Language (again).
It was an absolutely stunning day of jams.
Join me, won’t you? Click through and read the notes and view the photos.
I’ll start at the start. It bucketed early. I treated myself to a bit of brunch. Yeah. I had brunch. Deal with it.
Anyway, I entered just as the real rain ended and made my way to POBPAH as the clouds moved to drizzle mode. Hit after hit, but the end, the sun came out. Rad. It was amazing to see the band back together; it’d been since a SXSW show many years back. So good. Real Estate employed an adapted a nostalgic DVD player screen saver. The crowd cheered when it hit the corner. Again, they sounded amazing. Tennis is on their fairwell tour. Lovely people. Husbands was new to me, the Oklahoma City natives put down a stellar rock show set and hit the poses without posing.
Nation of Language played the rodeo stage. It was the most-crowded that stage had been all weekend, with quite a few also in the stands surrounding. Glorious dance party, I could have shot the whole thing from up front, but was happy to take a step back and just hang with fellow fans. While they did not play their latest single, they promised to give it a run at the after-party (which I was going to be at, yay).
TV on the Radio was more dynamic than I remember. I got a jump shot. Final set at the fairgrounds was Justice. The stagehands said that once Weezer was done, the load in started. Overnight, they did math (the metric system is better) to support the French tour team. Their work was appreciated as the lighting was GLORIOUS; so many lights moving around and choreographed. AND THE SOUND. I was dead center between the sound board and stage. Stunning.
Finally, NoL II at The Metro was a short walk from my hotel. They did indeed play “Inept Apollo”. Perfect way to end four days of music with new friends.
To cap things off, just go. I have no reason to believe the fest will not continue to improve.
