Psych Fest Watch: Bass Drum of Death
Seems like Friday is the night for me at Psych Fest, but rest assured, there are plenty of great acts all weekend long such as The Soft Moon and Fresh & Onlys. One of the bands I’m most excited to catch is Bass Drum of Death.
This Mississippi duo is just getting started after releasing their album GB City earlier this year to much acclaim. Admittedly, there’s a touch of the usual garage fury in this group, but BDoD take it a little further. For one, while you see similarities with the Whitestripes, the drummer here can actually play, banging on the drums loosely, giving the thing a sloppily steady groove. From all the live footage I’ve seen, and rumors at SXSW, they just tear it out, flailing bodies across the floor of every venue they play. It’s a pretty honest display of powerful rock n’ roll, making this one of the bands you’ll have to check out over at Seaholm. They’ll be helping close down the night just before the Meek on Stage Two at 1 AM.
