SXSW Interview: AU

We’re continuing our SXSW coverage with one of the more creative bands coming to Austin next week, AU. Luke Wyland is the main man behind the project, but he brings in his friends from time to time to flesh out the sound.  I can’t wait to catch these guys live, so read on to hear what they had to say about SXSW and other such things… ATH:  What is the most challenging thing about being a band during SXSW or another similar festival?

AU: I’d say navigating the collective nerves of everyone around you. So many people trying to do so may things at once it’s easy to have such frayed energy effect your performance.

ATH:  What are some tips you would offer newbie bands to survive during SXSW or just in general on tour?

AU: Eat your greens! And anything else thats healthy. Vitamins? Water? Basically treat your body as well as you possibly can within the circumstances, which are all seemingly stacked against you.

ATH:  What music are you guys currently jamming in your tour bus?

AU: The Necks, Death Grips, D’Angelo, Golden Retriever, King Crimson, Sam Amidon, A Winged Victory for the Sullen…..

ATH:  Who wins the Euro Cup this summer? It’s okay to tell us you hate soccer.

AU: Honestly I do love soccer, just not currently up to date on the Euro Cup situation.

ATH:  It’s fairly early in the musical year. What’s in store for your band before the world ends in December?

AU: We’re off to Europe in April and then ceaseless touring beyond…

ATH:  What’s the best pre-show beverage for the band? Let’s get brand specific! And, what’s the worst free shot we can buy you at SXSW?

AU: Coconut Water, specifically C2O. And a shot of Tequila. Worst shot I’d say would have to be anything that curdles. Maybe a Duck Fart?

ATH:  Being out on tour, what’s the one thing you miss about being back at home?

AU: I’d say it’s a tie between my bed and having a kitchen to make meals in.

ATH:  Best band of all time is….?

AU: Nah, won’t even try.
