SXSW Interviews: Javelin
Continuing on with our SXSW, today we have DJ-trip hop dupo Javelin answering our round of questions. The cousins, who hail from Brooklyn, are well known for working hard during the festival and always getting a dance party started. After the jump, you find interview questions from Tom van Buskirk of Javelin.
ATH: What is the most challenging thing about being a band during SXSW or another similar festival?
Javelin: Not to sound like an old-timey physician but I would have to say “over-exertion” is your main enemy at SXSW. To me there is no comparable festival, as far as playing multiple sets a day, doing lots of press, meeting tons of people.
ATH: What are some tips you would offer newbie bands to survive during SXSW or just in general on tour?
Javelin: Bring nerve tonic. Be yourself. Don’t drink the free beer every night.
ATH: What music are you guys currently jamming in your tour bus?
Javelin: You mean the Honda Fit we tour in? We bump a lot of WTF podcasts (Marc Maron’s interviews with comedians), and all kinds of music.
ATH: Who wins the Euro Cup this summer? It’s okay to tell us you hate soccer?
Javelin: I love watching the world cup… My thing with sports is, at this point in my life, I only watch the big games.
ATH: Due to licensing, you’ve had to change the band name, or else you get sued! What do you change it to?
Javelin: Or alternate name years ago was “Murray”
ATH: It’s fairly early in the musical year. What’s in store for your band before the world ends in December?
Javelin: It’s not going to end, it’ll just shift immeasurably in a way most of us won’t even understand. Right? Our next album should be out by then.
ATH: What’s the best pre-show beverage for the band? Let’s get brand specific! And, what’s the worst free shot we can buy you at SXSW?
Javelin: We like Jameson.
ATH: Being out on tour, what’s the one thing you miss about being back at home?
Javelin: Answering for George, probably his daughter. For me? I like sleeping in my own bed.
