ACL Interviews: Royal Teeth

Our ACL weekend has now come to a close, so it’s time for us to start recapping the festival with interviews and a multitude of lists.  Playing the part of our first post-ACL interview is up and coming band Royal Teeth.  Band members Gary Larsen and Nora Patterson both took part in answering our questions and we of course appreciate the time.  Follow the jump for full interview.

ATH: As a relative newcomer to the scene, how is touring going?  Everyone surviving the road okay?

RT: Touring is going better than we could have imagined. Everyone gets along really well. We have gotten some amazing opportunities with some incredible people. Aside from a few flat tires and terrifying deer experiences, we really couldn’t have asked for a better first tour.

ATH: With the recent release of your “Act Naturally” EP, are you guys happy with the way things turned out with those recordings?  Anything you would want to go back and tweak?

RT: We are very happy with the EP. It’s pretty crazy to think so many wonderful things have happened with just our EP out. Since the release we have been touring a lot and practicing together a lot more and I think it has really improved our live show. We like to bring a lot of energy and heart into every performance, so I think going into a full length we will try to bring more of that live element to it.

ATH: How has fan reception been to the new songs in the live setting?  You seem like a super energetic band.

RT: The fans have been incredibly supportive. Our fan base has definitely grown with every show. Even if the crowd is a total of 10 people, we will still put on the best show possible for them because they took the time to come see us and we don’t want to let anyone down. Live shows are really important to us and whenever we get a chance to connect with new fans, we take advantage of that.

We have also been trying a few new songs on the road and they have been coming across really well. We try to pay attention to which songs people are really getting into and from there, keep working on what we can do next to make it an even better experience for the crowd.

ATH: Any plans for a full length soon from you guys?  The world wants to know!

RT: YES! We are so anxious to get into the studio. The little time we have had the past few months in between touring has been spent writing and we have a ton of ideas in the works. Our goal is to be in the studio in the next couple months and have a record out early next year. Hopefully, by the time SXSW rolls around.

ATH: Obviously the song in Fifa 2013 is a huge deal.  Do you feel like that might offer a springboard towards success?  Any gamers in the band?

RT: It is a very big deal to us. We have seen our YouTube views on Wild shoot up since its release. We are so flattered that they wanted to use our song and also so humbled by the reaction it’s getting. Our guitarist, Stevie, is a huge soccer fan so I think it is a highlight of his career.

ATH: Have you guys looked over the ACL lineup at all?  Anyone you’d like to see?

RT: There are so many bands we would love to see. Unfortunately, we will only be there on Sunday. If we had all the time in the world, we would see Alabama Shakes, Jack White, Florence, M83, Andrew Bird, Dry the River, M. Ward, Gary Clark Jr., the list goes on and on.

ATH: Would you consider yourself more of a festival band or a venue band?  Why?

RT: I think we are going to have to work our way up to being a festival band. ACL will only be the forth festival we have played, so it’s still kind of a new thing to us. Making a connection with the crowd is an important part of our show and it’s not as easy with a huge festival crowd, but we will find a way. We have a big sound and the the energy the crowd gives will bring our energy up to a whole new level. There is so much to love about festivals and I think Royal Teeth will be able fit right in.

Thanks again guys!
