Show Pics: Twin Bitches @ The Mohawk (4/30)
We had a fun night of having fun at The Mohawk. While reports of Kaiser Chiefs’ performance at Stubb’s trickled in with some vocal issues attached, Nathan, Nicole and I were enjoying local faves Slow and Jonly Bonly with a first time look at Twin Bitches. No issues here, other than wanting a few more people to join us. It was a full tilt batch of jams featuring broken guitar strings, pedal stomps, bass face and neck strains.

Slow opened with an instrumental jam. After that, frontman, erm, sideman, Garrick took control as he tried like hell to shake his glasses off his face. Meanwhile, Daren’s bass stance front and center anchored songs as the rest of the guys did the work needed to make people head pogo.
Jonly Bonly’s Jason, Stephen and Jeremy on guitar, bass and drums, respectively, take hold of your earholes with riffs, grooves and lyrics. I love how they seem so serious and then swap smirks with each other and audience members get drawn into their songs. I want to tell you people, yet again, go see this band.
Twin Bitches is new to us in the live setting, but they tick several boxes that Team ATH use to evaluate jams. There are elements of punk and post-punk and psych and jagged surf-like stuff that is infectious. The band is young, X’s on some of the hands; the guitarist though played around a broken string like a veteran. Keep an eye out, they believe in these songs and they stick with you.
