A2W: Ideal Soul Mart
Local Austin boys Ideal Soul Mart have been gaining some positive attention around town with some jam packed shows at several local venues. We here at ATH have taken notice of the band’s efforts and thought they’d be a great choice for this weeks artist to watch feature. Follow the jump for more info on this up and coming band.
The story of Ideal Soul Mart tells us that the band was formed by multi-instrumentalists Clay Fain and Adam Luikart who both had spent some significant time in other bands in Austin (Crawling with Kings, Friends of Lizzy). After tiring of their old bands, the guys got together and decided to start on a new project which would begin playing shows and writing songs immediately.
Ideal Soul Mart claim to write songs with a “reckless approach” and try to focus on some of the more bare bones aspects of pop music. You may be quick to call them garage rock, but the sound goes a lot deeper than that. I’d say they sometimes fit into a sound similar to fellow locals Strange Boys with a bigger focus on droning soundscapes and solid pop melodies.
The band also recently put the finishing touches on their debut self-titled album which is out now and available on itunes. Feel free to say hi to them on myspace or bandcamp and check out this catchy tune “Wrk”. Stay tuned for more tour dates as the news develops.

this band is super fun to watch live, too. since they are only a 2-piece band, the guys switch off with instruments and are often playing 2 or even 3 instruments at once! it’s fun to watch, and the sound they are able to produce as a mere twosome is incredible.
Just got added to a bill on Oct. 9 at the Parish.
