George Children Prep Kitchen Sink Drama

If you’re going to hit the road, one of the best ways to make a little extra cash is to have solid merch on hand. So, with a tour on the schedule for George Children, they’ve prepped the Kitchen Sink Drama EP, which will only be available on their West Coast tour…or via Dandy Boy Records! This song feels like looking out onto the world, searching for any signs of positivity (as I’m sure we’re all doing right now); it operates with this uplifting guitar strum, as Jordan Chipman narrates a car ride with a “beautiful stranger.” It’s light in nature, but some notes just dig deep into your soul, and this is one such song. You can grab the new EP by catching the band live, or grab the cassette before its February 20th release date.

Low Monroe Releases Deviant Hotline Video

While we admit to throwing certain generic modifiers into a lot of posts (unfairly so, occasionally), but as unfortunate as that can be, there’s no better way to turn you onto Low Monroe than by depicting them as the bastard child of Bauhaus and Joy Division. When listening to their new “Deviant Hotline” tune, you can hear the darkness, but like the aforementioned Manchester outfit, there’s a buoyancy to the shadows, particularly in the drive of the rhythm section. Guttural vocal tones give you that intoxicating stomach knot, built upon anxiety and primal desires, coating the tune in this ominous texture. You deserve post-punk like this. Go ahead, get lost in the darkened corners of this great jam.

The Matthew Teardrop Orchestra Drop Hard Feelings Video

Wanted you to wake up this morning with some riotous energy, and what better way to embark on that journey than to grab a hold of a new video from The Matthew Teardrop Orchestra. Last last year, they dropped their excellent self-titled EP, and one of the standout tunes now gets the proper video treatment, giving us the opportunity to throw some weight. This song is as anthemic as it gets, with the constant howl of “hard feeling” hitting the listener time and time again; it brings me great joy to just belt this one out at the top of my lungs, just as Matthew Teardrop does! They carry their punk aesthetics throughout their hometown of Detroit, and in the back of a van, illustrating their ties to their home and the joy with which they approach their songwriting. Triathalon Announces Funeral Music

Out of a period of heartbreak, hardship and ruminating on memorial service music, Triathalon have come out swinging for their new album, Funeral Music. Their balancing act between heavy riffs and gently whisper-sung vocals is absolutely perfect; they even use these screaming squalls of feedback to shoot across like sonic stars of noise that break through. It’s like a metal song, but with personality; take the twinkling little key notes and the ebb/flow of vocal tones and there’s this brilliant heavy pop song just hang out there perfectly. Each crest and crash just fills every inch of space with absolute power, and if I’m being honest, this might be the jam of the week…and we’re just getting started! The new LP is out May 16th via Lex Records.

Wails Drop Lights Out Single

While the Austin scene started off the year on a roll, we look East towards our H-Town neighbors to talk about Wails, as they drop a brand new single that’s been on rotation throughout the weekend. There’s this circular ring to the track, offering up an atmosphere that reverberates from start to finish; it sets the song up perfectly with a warmth that supports the vocals. That voice tiptoes in the midst of the misty center, seemingly rising up to meet some punctuated percussive elements, all of it swelling and textured with a beautiful wall of drama. You’ll find the track on the group’s next EP, which will be out this Spring!

Carla Aakre Shares Life

Over in Finland, Carla Aakre has been making quite a name for herself, with a handful of singles to her name, she’s readying her debut LP, Things I Forgot to Tell You. On this new jam, you can hear her employ a softened folk approach, though similar to many US acts, she’s filling the space behind her lead guitar with these incendiary licks, allowing the texture of the song to develop the earworm that you hear below. For me, I love how you can hear it either way, as a traditional songwriter fare, or as something with a bigger vibe. We’ll have to wait until May 2nd to find out where she goes on the new album!

Last Week’s Jams (2.10 – 2.14)

It started off a little slow and strange, but those keeping their eye on the prize knew we’d be in for a crazy end to the week, as there were releases dropping left and right. We skipped the album cycle to mostly focus on fresh singles, though we gave nods to records that came our way by the likes of Frog, Horsegirl, JJ Sweetheart and a few more. They’ve all got some great individual tracks in this great playlist, but we’re starting you off with Lowmoon‘s new jam, which is the perfect nostalgic bit of dream pop, which then moves right into Club 8‘s most recent banger. Some longer tunes rom Echo Delay, Cross Record and Consumables are within, but we tried to balance that out with some little joys. Lowmoon Drops Won’t Change Your Mind Video

Been a bit all over the musical map this morning, with a little of this and a little of that, but really excited for the dream pop vibes on this new single from Lowmoon. The Yorkshire-based project is certainly crafting some nostalgia, albeit in a much more modern presentation. Drums have this snazzy sharpness that creates this rhythmic pulse that glues all the pieces together; you get jangling guitars and melodies galore that climb through your speakers, all of it working well within the delightful contrast of the two vocal styles on display. This is the perfect Friday dance track you’ve been seeking, and it’ll be on the new Cathedrals LP, out April 25th via Safe Suburban Home Records.

Tom Henry Drops Art House

While you’re getting bombarded by all the great releases today, you’ll also find some little treasures in the music world of singles, like this new Tom Henry track. Something in the craft of this song finds me reminiscing on my childhood growing up and listening to 50s rock n’ roll songs, though you can also kind of hear bits of Costello or Lowe in the delivery. That natural boogie inclination shouldn’t be discarded, with a ditty-worthy exploding in the chorus where you’re drawn into a classic doo-wop vibe; you’ll want to grab your Valentine and swing them about your living quarters. Henry will release Songs to Sing and Dance To on June 27th via Royal Oakie.

Vulture Feather Shares Flesh and Electronics

Today’s the day my friends, as you can finally enjoy the entirety of the new Vulture Feather LP; the band have been hit on our radar with earlier singles…and there’s one more big bold statement to stream below before you dive into the entirety of the LP. Something about the thundering nature of the drums and chug of the guitars continues to remind me of the good era of Wolf Parade, though they’re tossing in a lot more angular riffs, filling the song with this anxiousness that is swept up perfectly by the soaring drama of the vocals that howl throughout.
