Holding Hour Share Can I Leave Me Too Single

Des Moines outfit Holding Hour have been offering up these little gems over the past few years, and I’ve really loved diving into their fresh single. Personally, I love when there are two distinctive musical narratives running through a track, working against each other, yet intertwining so seamlessly; it allows the duo to build this textured density that gives all of their work a heavy emotional weight. Lyrically, the track, with trading vocal roles, takes on the subject of admitting your faults in a relationship, though not quite embracing your own role, as you seek to escape your own shortcomings. Continue to love the world these two are building.

The Wickies Offer We Tried

I’ve only recently gotten into the Wickies, mostly because, as you clearly know, I’m absolutely in love with Quinn Kinsella-Mulkerin’s voice, and have been since I first listened to Big Blood. But, her current project, illustrates the reserved side of that power, holding it in just a bit, letting it carry the song without making it the sole focus. Together with songwriting partner Aiden Arel, the duo build these indie rock structures that manage to encompass the playful spirit that the Moldy Peaches and make it seem serious. Their self-titled album is dropping next week via Ba Da Bing Records, and I already get the feeling that this young act is years ahead of their time, and we’ll be looking to them for years to come.

Wolfschmidt Shares ATM + Drops New EP

A couple of weeks ago I brought you an introduction to Sweden’s Wolfschmidt, or so I’d like to think. Today, I’m here to share another rad track from their fresh as a daisy Cosmic Joke EP. This tune pummels your ears with these sharp walls of angular noise, hurtling them towards you like Zeus and his trusty lightning bolts, hitting you again and again. But, with all that noise and driving rhythmic rise and fall, there’s a central voice that continues to let you fall in love; the vocals are huge, retreating when they needed to and belting at the top of the mix when needed. You’re definitely going to enjoy a good listen to Cosmic Joke; it’s available for jamming right now!

Joyer Share Glluu Video

While the previous Joyer singles have seen the band dabbling in bits of shoegaze, it seems they’re new song has been influenced by a lot of the peers they’re about to tour with, like Wishy and Horse Jumper of Love. This one is a quiet bit of vocals and intricate guitar pieces, and while there’s a slight percussive bit, it hangs far in the distance, as the rhythm is mostly worked through by overlapping vocal harmonies. And, despite the pretty nature of the single, the group just can’t help themselves, peeling back the curtains for a wash of noise to close the tune out. Their new EP, I See Forward and Back, will be out next Friday via Hit the North.

Stream The Hollow Husk of Feeling by Best Bets

One of the great records I’ve been listening to over the last few weeks is officially out today, and you’ve got to just crank this one up to the max. Best Bets have delivered perhaps “the” hit power-pop record this year, delivering on the promise they delivered with On An Unhistoric Night. They added songwriting credits this go round from band member Joe Sampson (Salad Boys) and he’s infused this immediacy that blasts the hooks into your face the instant you press play. Seriously, if you do anything today, just listen to this record and revel in the pure joy you feel as you continue to turn that knob up to feel the power. EggS Share Head In Flames Video

Today’s the day you’re going to run out that door with purpose, you’re going to march into whatever you’re doing with a sense that you’re going to accomplish everything you need to do. Today, your power will be soundtracked by EggS. They’ve previously won us over with their Greatest Hits EP and A Glitter Year LP, and they continue to impress on this brand new single that dropped yesterday! As is always the case, they’re incredible hard to pigeonhole; they seem to musical shape-shift, sometimes instantaneously; I can hear remnants of Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade in the vocals, yet they also sound very modern British indie rock…and yet either way I win. Just love the energy this awoke in me, and I immediately had to share it. Look for Crafted Achievement on November 1st via Prefect Records/Howlin Banana.

MOMI Share Spring in Reverse + Release MOMI001

Thanks to all the time I’ve spent with the recent Dummy album, my worlds just seem to be mixing like one of those psychedelic light shows they employ at Levitation; just like this new MOMI tune. The Sydney based duo are blending synthetics with a warbling wash of strange pop. There are moments when the tune drifts into this air indie rock, while other moments it feels like some sampled break-beat induced pop tune, mysteriously drawing you in with its whimsy. We’re at a place where folks are pushing their tastes into one striking world, and in doing so, we keep being given the gifts like the whole of this MOMI001 LP.

Tony Jay Joins Forces with The Moment of Nightfall

When Michael Ramos left to take Tony Jay over to Japan, I’m not sure that he envisioned a new project with The Moment of Nightfall, but here we are, and dammit if the world’s not instantly a better place. Thematically, the song’s and the album title, Winter Dream, imply a certain starkness in the world, and I’d be lying if I didn’t see that as perfectly fitting, as I prefer listening to these songs all cozied up in my blanket with my headphones on, as if its actually Winter. And sure, it’s Texas at the end of the world, so there is no Winter coming, but the song’s provide warmth, texturally and musically, thus comforting me in my time of need. Whether you hear a soft blanket of snow or a rustling of autumnal leaves as they fall to the ground, you surely hear the Earth breathing in tune with this new project. Winter Dream is out on November 29th via KillKillVilla Records.

Jennifer Castle Releases Earthsong Video

Looking to have an emotional connection with the greater world? Might we encourage you to let Jennifer Castle help you find your way. The opening moment alone tugs at you, grounds you, connects you and Castle as one. Then, her voice enters, almost frolicking, carefree but still pensive in its presentation. For all intents and purposes, it does feel woodsy or pastoral, taking that Earth connection beyond literal and letting the emotional draw of the strum lock you into the sense of wonderment. If, you’re following Jennifer through the song and through the day, be sure to check out Camelot, which drops on November 1st via Paradise of Bachelors.

SCHOOL Share The End Video

Our pals over at Geographie are stoked to announce the debut album from SCHOOL, dropping early in the new year. That said, you don’t have to wait too long, as the group have a single they’d love to squeeze into your rotation today: “The End.” There are really two pieces to this song. On one hand, you get modern bedroom pop, albeit spun through a bit of a disaffected youth lens. Then, you flip it over and there’s some grungy chorus that opens up on its back half to churn the tune into a sprawling pop number. Rinse and repeat, and you can certainly hear why we’re stoked with what the band are offering. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more about that new LP.
